Software Development Manager / Lead Engineer A global investment and financial services organisation is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a small, high‑performing engineering team focused on modernising a critical enterprise data platform. This is a hands‑on leadership role combining people management, technical leadership, architecture, and greenfield engineering. The successful candidate will help drive the replacement of a long‑standing legacy platform with modern cloud‑native applications and tooling.

The business has a strong engineering culture, significant investment in technology and data, and a long‑term approach to innovation and team development. The Role You’ll lead a team of engineers delivering modern applications and platform capabilities within a highly data‑centric environment. The role combines mentoring and delivery leadership with hands‑on technical contribution and architectural input.

You’ll work closely with senior engineering leadership and cross‑functional delivery teams to help shape engineering standards, improve development practices, and support the adoption of AI‑assisted engineering tools. Key Responsibilities Leading and mentoring a team of software engineers Driving delivery of modern cloud‑native applications Supporting architectural decisions and platform modernisation Improving engineering standards, productivity and delivery practices Helping teams adopt AI‑assisted development tooling and workflows Collaborating with distributed international teams and stakeholders Contributing hands‑on across backend and frontend development where required Technical Environment React Python / PySpark AWS Cloud‑native architecture Enterprise‑scale data platforms AI‑assisted engineering tooling (e.g. Copilot / LLM‑assisted workflows) What They're Looking For Previous experience leading or managing engineering teams Strong software engineering background with hands‑on capability Experience delivering modern data or platform engineering solutions Strong frontend/UI experience is highly desirable Comfortable working in large‑scale enterprise environments Experience within regulated industries such as financial services, insurance, or similar is beneficial Someone passionate about engineering quality, mentoring, and modern development practices Working Arrangement London‑based role Hybrid working model (typically 1‑2 days onsite) Some collaboration with US‑based teams, including occasional later calls Package Base salary circa £130k‑£135k Significant annual bonus structure Excellent pension contribution Strong holiday allowance and wider benefits package Long‑term career growth and progression opportunities #J-18808-Ljbffr
