The Role We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to play a key role in test automation, system validation, and release quality across our platform. This role operates at the intersection of: mobile applications connected medical devices (Bluetooth) cloud APIs and backend systems You will help ensure reliable and high-quality releases while gaining experience working in a regulated medical device environment. This role is ideal for engineers looking to grow into a senior SDET role while working on complex, real-world systems.
This is a hybrid role and you must live within a reasonablecommuting distance of the Luna Health office in San Diego, CA. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
What youll do Test automation & infrastructure Contribute to automation-first testing strategies and implementation Develop and maintain automated tests for: mobile applications backend APIs end-to-end system workflows Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines Expand automated regression coverage Contribute to improving test strategy across unit, integration, and system layers System & integration testing Execute end-to-end system tests across: mobile app Bluetooth-connected device backend services Validate workflows and identify edge cases Test device connectivity and data synchronization Observe and investigate system behavior in real-world scenarios Debug issues across mobile, backend, and device layers with support from senior engineers Collaborate with mobile, firmware, and backend engineers Validation & quality Support verification & validation (V&V) activities Develop and maintain validation artifacts (test plans, cases, protocols, reports) Contribute to maintaining traceability between product requirements and test coverage Partner with cross-functional teams to maintain audit-ready quality artifacts Support release readiness, including regression validation and defect triage Participate in release validation cycles across multiple product milestones What you bring Experience 35 years of experience in test automation or software quality engineering Experience testing mobile applications and/or backend systems (device or system-level experience a plus) Technical skills Proficiency in one or more of: Swift, Python, JavaScript, or similar Experience with modern test frameworks (e.g., Cucumber, XCUITest, Appium, Selenium), including mobile test automation Experience testing: mobile applications (iOS preferred) REST APIs Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, etc.) System & device testing Experience or exposure to testing connected devices (BLE/Bluetooth) Experience validating end-to-end system workflows Regulated / Validation experience Experience working in a regulated environment (medical device, healthcare, etc.) Familiarity with: verification and validation (V&V) test traceability structured validation documentation Familiarity with standards such as IEC 62304 is a plus Ways of working Strong attention to detail Willingness to learn and grow in a complex system environment Ability to work collaboratively in a small team Why this role matters This role contributes to: reliable device integrations safe and compliant releases scalable testing across multiple product milestones You will gain experience working on a complex, real-world system with meaningful impact on patient outcomes.
