Software Development Engineer (Freelance)

Our client is developing an innovative AI-powered auditing solution designed to transform how facility cleaning standards are assessed and monitored. The platform combines artificial intelligence, machine learning, and modern software engineering to enable consistent, evidence-based evaluations of cleaning quality across facilities.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will play a key role in building a mobile-first audit experience that enables users to capture photos, assess cleaning standards, and generate structured audit results in real time. Working at the intersection of software engineering, AI, and operational excellence, you will contribute to the design and development of both customer-facing applications and the backend services that power intelligent audit workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions that support AI-assisted facility auditing and evidence capture workflows.
• Build responsive frontend applications that guide users through audit activities, including site selection, audit criteria review, photo capture, defect tagging, and score validation.
• Develop backend services and APIs that manage audit data, process images, integrate AI scoring capabilities, and store audit evidence securely.
• Collaborate with AI/ML specialists to implement intelligent scoring workflows and support confidence-based review processes.
• Design and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems that meet security, performance, and operational requirements.
• Create automated tests, troubleshooting tools, monitoring solutions, and operational controls to ensure high system availability and data quality.
• Partner with business stakeholders, product teams, and operational users to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Continuously improve platform capabilities by introducing new features that enhance audit efficiency, consistency, traceability, and reporting.
• Support integrations with reporting platforms, operational systems, and future workflow automation initiatives.

Must-Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong programming experience with Python for backend development
• Experience with Java is a plus.
• Hands-on experience building modern frontend applications using React and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience working with DynamoDB or comparable NoSQL database technologies.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications using serverless technologies, including AWS Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, and CloudWatch.
• Strong understanding of modern web application architecture, UX principles, and scalable frontend design.
• Proven ability to write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive unit and integration test coverage.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a solid foundation in software engineering fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• Passion for delivering high-quality products with a strong focus on customer experience, operational excellence, and reliability.
• Ability to design and deliver scalable, highly available production systems.

Location: Spain remotely (with a few days on-site in Barcelona every month)
