Software Development Engineer, Amazon Foundational Security Services

At Amazon Web Services (AWS), our team is building out a renewed set of Foundational Access Management capabilities for all of Amazon’s digital and physical resources.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to design and build a large‑scale next‑generation Authentication Management System. You will have ample opportunity to innovate and deliver high‑impact outcomes. You will collaborate with the leadership team to drive key engineering and business decisions that influence the Amazon developer experience.

Your contributions will span the entire software development and deployment lifecycle across multiple products, including design, implementation, documentation, deployment, and operations.

A day in the life of the role includes strong software engineering fundamentals such as object‑oriented design, algorithms, data structures, and a good grasp of advanced systems concepts. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, self‑drive, and the ability to deliver results are essential. You will work closely with a talented group of engineers and builders.

The position involves on‑call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We work to ensure that our systems are fault‑tolerant, and we resolve root causes to prevent repeated paging.

Qualifications

• Experience in professional software development (non‑internship)
• Experience designing or architecting new or existing systems, including reliability and scalability
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
• Experience with the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
