We're looking for an experienced Software Developer - UniVerse/Pick to join our IT Development team. We're looking for an experienced Software Developer - UniVerse/Pick to join our IT Development team. About the Role

As part of our IT Development team, you'll play a key role in developing and supporting our core banking platform and its integrations. You'll work closely with fellow developers and business stakeholders to design, build and maintain reliable and scalable solutions that improve business processes and deliver outstanding customer outcomes.

This is a hands on backend development role where you'll contribute across APIs, system integrations and modern development practices, while helping evolve our core technology platform. You'll have the opportunity to solve technical problems, influence solution design and deliver enhancements that make a real impact across the business.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design, develop and maintain backend applications, REST APIs and system integrations.

  • Develop solutions using UniVerse/Pick, Python and related technologies.

  • Support and enhance Firstmac's core banking platform and associated applications.

  • Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements, design practical solutions and deliver high-quality outcomes.

  • Build a strong understanding of Firstmac's products, systems and business processes to identify opportunities and propose effective technical solutions.

  • Troubleshoot, resolve and support production issues.

  • Participate in solution design, code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Contribute to technical documentation, testing and development best practices.

  • Mentor team members and share technical knowledge across the team.

  • Work with AI tools (within company policy) to improve development efficiency and quality.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

About you

You're an experienced backend developer who enjoys solving complex problems and working collaboratively to deliver high-quality software. You have a continuous improvement mindset and enjoy learning new technologies while sharing your knowledge with others.

You'll also bring:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a UniVerse/Pick Developer.

  • Strong experience developing in an AIX environment using UniVerse/Pick and Python.

  • Experience building and consuming REST and SOAP APIs.

  • Strong knowledge of Git/GitFlow, unit testing, TDD and software engineering best practices.

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDB preferred).

  • Experience with authentication technologies such as OAuth2 and OpenID Connect.

  • Knowledge of Bash and/or PowerShell scripting.

  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, SOLID principles and networking fundamentals.

  • Excellent problem solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Highly regarded

Experience with any of the following will be highly regarded:

  • Ultracs and/or Rocket MVIS.

  • AWS services including Lambda, ECS, Fargate and ECR.

  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).

  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

  • JavaScript, TypeScript and Sequelize.

  • AIX, Linux or Windows administration.

  • Database administration and monitoring tools including Prometheus, CloudWatch and Grafana.
