Software Engineer / Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, Hybrid / £35,000 - £45,000 Per Annum D.O.E.

Required Skills & Experience of the Software Engineer:
- Strong Python: Writing and maintaining data pipelines.
- Able to solve complex problems.
- Excellent written, oral and visual communication skills to explain complex information.
- Enjoys and works well in a team-based environment, and is self-motivated to individually succeed.
- Understands and implements best practices of modern Software Engineering including Agile
- Software Development, Automated Testing, Configuration Management principles and DevOps.
- Has the rigour and care to manage and control changes to development, testing and production environments.
Desirable skills & experience:
- C# / .NET: experience building libraries and command-line tools with .NET 8.0+.
- Comfortable reading and safely modifying existing/legacy codebases; good documentation and PR practices.
- SQL Databases: PostgreSQL and SQLite experience (schema design, migrations, basicperformance tuning).
- Orchestration & data engineering: experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Prefect or similar) and distributed task queuing (e.g. Celery, RabbitMQ).
- Testing & automation: writing unit and basic integration tests as well as automating test runs as part of CI pipelines e.g. GitHub Actions.
- AI-assisted development: comfortable using AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to increase productivity, while validating and testing any AI-generated code and understanding its limitations.
- Experience building or maintaining REST APIs, microservices, event-driven services, and message-driven patterns.
- Containerisation: experience using Docker and deploying containerised applications
Nice to have:
- GIS & point-cloud processing: GDAL/PDAL, GeoPandas, Open3D, LAS/LAZ/Raster/Vectorhandling, spatial transforms and analysis.
- TypeScript/JavaScript for developing front-end dashboards and user interfaces.
- Packaging & distribution: familiarity with publishing and versioning packages (NuGet and/or PyPI).
