Job Description
Intro
CO2 emissions in the real estate sector must be reduced quickly. But what is not measured cannot be controlled in a targeted manner: Our live data on consumption and generation in properties enables the most effective use of electricity, gas, heat and water in everyday life.
We are a young Berlin scale-up that supports sustainability and also lives it in our day-to-day business. We are looking for a Software Developer in Berlin at the earliest possible date.
You will join a small team of experienced backend engineers, working in an existing production codebase on non-trivial logic shaped by real measurement data and requirements of the German energy market.
Aufgaben
- You build new backend functionality and extend TypeScript services that ingest, process, and expose measurement data across our platform.
- You refactor and improve existing code, reducing technical debt where it slows us down.
- You improve the correctness and performance of measurement data processing as our platform load grows.
- You investigate production issues, debug inconsistencies in system behaviour and data, and contribute follow-up improvements that reduce recurring problems.
- Over time, you will take ownership of parts of the system, work from defined requirements with guidance as necessary, and help improve their reliability, observability, and maintainability.
Anforderungen
- You have at least 3 years of professional backend development experience, including building and maintaining production backend services and REST APIs with TypeScript and Node.js.
- You have practical experience working with relational data models and SQL, ideally PostgreSQL, and are comfortable working on Linux, in a terminal, and with Git.
- You have a pragmatic mindset, avoid unnecessary complexity, can distinguish bike-shedding from decisions that matter, and prefer battle-tested technologies over hype when they better support maintainability, reliability, and delivery.
- You are comfortable working in existing backend systems, willing to learn domain-specific areas such as measurement processing and smart metering, and are interested in understanding how systems behave in production.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required, German is a plus.
- Frontend experience, for example with Vue, is a plus but not required.
- Experience with the German energy market, time-series or IoT data, or asynchronous and background processing is a plus.
Benefits
- A job that lays the foundations for using energy and water sustainably and consciously.
- Permanent position with a fixed salary of between EUR 55 - 65 thousand.
- Flexible trust-based working hours, part-time option, at least two days of mobile working per week, individual training plan and regular feedback meetings.
- Germany ticket or job bike, as well as an office with very good public transport connections.
- A green office, terrace, free drinks and ice cream.
- Complete technical equipment.
- 30 vacation days/year.
- Company pension scheme.
- Family-friendly approach to reporting short-term illnesses in children.
