This role is based in Durham, Northeast England, working within the creative and marketing team for a trusted, industry-leading wholesale retailer. They are looking for a social-first Social Media Executive who can create engaging, scroll-stopping content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, helping to build their online communities and bring the brand to life through short-form video and creative storytelling. This role is a permanent, full-time, hybrid role, based in Durham (North East England), with 3-4 days per week onsite and the remainder working from home.
This is a brilliant time to join their team as they are growing and have several big projects planned within the next 12 months and they are a social-first marketing team, where you will get involved in campaigns, content creation, shoots and the continued development of their social presence.
The Company
Our client is a leading multi-channel retail wholesaler, with hundreds of branches across the UK and a trusted heritage spanning more than 70 years. During a continued period of growth, they are investing heavily in their marketing function and have a growing social presence with some exciting campaigns and projects to get involved in.
You will be part of a social-first marketing team that is helping to elevate the brand and build stronger connections with its customers and communities. Social has already generated over 11 million organic impressions in the last 12 months, so this is a great opportunity to join a team with real momentum and help shape what comes next.
They offer a collaborative and people-focused environment, excellent facilities and the opportunity to work alongside an experienced marketing team, with plenty of scope to learn and develop your skills.
The Role
They are looking for a hands-on Social Media Executive who understands what makes people stop scrolling and enjoys creating content that feels native to each platform.
It would suit someone with around 1-3+ years' experience in social media, content creation or digital marketing who is confident creating short-form video, writing engaging copy and getting involved in the day-to-day running of social channels.
You'll work closely with the Senior Social Media Manager, Campaign and Brand teams to bring ideas to life, support wider marketing activity and help build an engaged online community.
Responsibilities for the role include;
- Social Content Creation: Create and edit engaging, mobile-first content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and other relevant platforms.
- Short-Form Video: Create social-first video content, understanding hooks, pacing, trends and storytelling to drive engagement.
- Campaign Support: Support wider marketing campaigns with relevant social content and execution, ensuring activity is aligned with the wider brand.
- Community Management: Engage daily with the audience through comments and conversations, helping to build genuine interaction and community.
- Content Planning: Manage scheduling, content calendars and the day-to-day logistics of keeping social channels active and engaging.
- Performance & Analytics: Pull weekly performance data, identify trends and contribute to test-and-learn discussions to improve content.
- Audience Monitoring: Monitor audience sentiment and flag emerging conversations, opportunities or potential brand risks.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Social, Campaign and Brand teams to deliver joined-up marketing activity.
- Content Shoots: Attend occasional UK branch and on-location shoots, with some overnight stays where required.
- Creator & UGC Support: Assist with communication with industry creators and ambassadors, helping to encourage authentic user-generated content and community participation.
Your Experience
You have around 1-3+ years' experience within a social media, content creation or digital marketing role and have hands-on experience creating content across multiple social platforms.
You are naturally curious about social media, keep on top of trends and understand how to create content that feels relevant and native to different platforms.
You enjoy being hands-on, coming up with new ideas and working collaboratively within a fast-paced marketing environment. You're also comfortable being reactive when needed and understand that social doesn't always stick neatly to a 9-5 content calendar.
You have;
- Social Media Experience: Hands-on experience creating and managing content across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
- Content Creation: Strong mobile editing skills using CapCut, in-app editing tools or similar.
- Short-Form Storytelling: A natural understanding of social hooks, pacing, trends and storytelling.
- Copywriting: Confident copywriting skills with the ability to adapt tone of voice for different audiences and platforms.
- Social Analytics: Comfortable interpreting social performance data and using insights to inform future content.
- Social Management Tools: Familiarity with social scheduling, management or listening tools such as Sprout Social, Brandwatch or similar.
- Portfolio: A portfolio or examples of social content demonstrating your creativity and understanding of social-first content.
- On-Camera Confidence: Comfortable appearing in or directing short-form video content when required.
- Organised & Proactive: Able to manage multiple pieces of content and deadlines while remaining flexible in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative: Enjoy working with wider creative, campaign and marketing teams to bring ideas to life.
Experience within a retail, trade or consumer-focused environment would be helpful but is not essential.
This role is based in Durham, North East England. Before applying, please ensure that you are able to commute to the office for a minimum of 3-4 days per week and are comfortable with occasional travel to UK branches and locations for content shoots.
