SharePoint Support Specialist
Stolt-Nielsen Digital Innovation Centre
Job Description
About the Role:
As a SharePoint Support Specialist at Stolt-Nielsen, you will be the first point of contact for SharePoint Online issues across the organisation, providing responsive P1 and P2 support and ensuring the platform runs smoothly day to day. You will manage site provisioning, permissions, lifecycle management, and the integration touchpoints between SharePoint and other Microsoft 365 applications.
This role combines operational support with hands-on administration, and requires strong problem-solving ability and clear communication, since you will frequently be the one translating technical permission structures into plain language for end users and stakeholders. You will handle site creation and decommissioning, manage permissions and access reviews across multiple levels of the SharePoint and OneDrive environment, execute lifecycle management tasks (inactive site detection, owner attestation follow-ups, archival), and support minor customization requests.
You will work within a small, focused SharePoint team alongside a Team Lead and Senior Developer, with real opportunity to improve your technical skills over time.
What You'll Do:
- Provide P1 and P2 support for all SharePoint Online issues across the organisation, acting as the first point of contact for end users.
- Manage day-to-day site provisioning, configuration, and decommissioning in line with governance policies.
- Administer permissions across all levels of the environment, including:
- Site-level and sub-site permissions
- Ownership assignment and transfer
- Guest-level (external user) permissions and access reviews
- Folder- and item-level (unique) permissions
- OneDrive-level sharing and access permissions
- Security group membership and Microsoft 365 group permissions
- Diagnose and resolve permission-related issues logically and systematically, tracing access problems back to their root cause (e.g. broken inheritance, conflicting group membership, expired guest access) rather than applying quick fixes.
- Execute lifecycle management tasks including inactive site detection, owner attestation follow-ups, and archival processes.
- Support integration touchpoints between SharePoint and other Microsoft 365 applications such as Teams, OneDrive, Outlook, and Viva Engage.
- Log, track, and report on support tickets; maintain SLA compliance and provide regular reporting on ticket volumes and resolution times.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with end users and stakeholders explaining permission issues, timelines, and resolutions in an accessible, non-technical way.
- Handle minor customisation requests such as page layouts, list configurations, and basic workflow adjustments.
- Assist with permission audits and access reviews in support of governance and compliance requirements.
- Maintain clear, well-structured documentation for support procedures, known issues, permission models, and environment configurations.
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in IT, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 35 years of experience in SharePoint Online administration within a Microsoft 365 enterprise environment.
- Strong, demonstrable understanding of SharePoint's permission model, including site, sub-site, folder/item-level, guest, and OneDrive permissions, and how inheritance and breaking inheritance affects access.
- Solid understanding of security groups and access management.
- Experience with site provisioning, lifecycle management, and governance processes.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 ecosystem integration (Teams, OneDrive, Outlook, Viva Engage).
- Basic PowerShell scripting skills for administrative tasks and bulk operations.
- Strong problem-solving and logical thinking skills, with the ability to methodically diagnose and resolve complex access and permission issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong service orientation with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple support requests, prioritise effectively, and work under SLA pressure.
- Attention to detail and commitment to thorough documentation.
Must-Have Skills:
- SharePoint Online administration and site management
- In-depth knowledge of SharePoint permissions: site, sub-site, folder/item-level, guest access, and ownership management
- OneDrive permissions and sharing management
- Microsoft 365 permissions management and security groups
- Site provisioning, lifecycle management, and governance
- Incident management and SLA-driven support
- Basic PowerShell scripting
- Strong problem-solving and logical/analytical thinking
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with Power Automate for basic workflow automation
- Familiarity with SharePoint migration processes
- Knowledge of Microsoft Purview or other compliance and governance tools
- Experience with ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, or similar)
- Exposure to Power Apps or SharePoint Framework (SPFx) development
