Job Description

ServiceNow Engineer Join us as a ServiceNow Engineer at Barclays UK to build and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure infrastructure platforms supporting applications and data systems across hardware, software, networks, and cloud environments. You will ensure system performance and availability through automation and engineering best practices while working on Windows servers, security upgrades, and custom module development using JavaScript within a small, cross‑functional team. Required Experience ServiceNow Development & Technical Design – Ability to design, build, and deploy solutions (business rules, client scripts, UI policies, integrations, etc.) and maintain overall code quality.

Integration & Platform Engineering Expertise – Strong understanding of ServiceNow integrations (APIs, REST, SSO, web services, mid‑server) and ability to integrate legacy systems. ITSM Process & Platform Knowledge – Hands‑on experience across core modules (Incident, Problem, Change, Service Catalogue, Request, CMDB) and reporting (metrics/SLAs). Highly Valued Skills Service Portal & Catalogue Development – Experience building user‑facing capabilities (Service Portal, catalogue items).

Stakeholder & Requirements Management – Ability to work with process managers, understand business pain points, and translate them into technical solutions. Continuous Improvement & Best Practice Mindset – Commitment to improving ServiceNow practices, SDLC processes, and platform maturity over time. Location This role is based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Purpose of the Role To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required. The aim is to ensure that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure, and to guarantee reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response. Accountabilities Build Engineering – Development, delivery, and maintenance of high‑quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements, ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use.

This includes identifying the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements. Incident Management – Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages, using data to drive down mean time to resolution. Automation – Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.

Security – Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber‑attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access. Teamwork – Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data‑driven approach. Learning – Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organisation's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
