Service Manager - Payroll and Benefits Manager

Job Description

Shangri-La Toronto seeks a Payroll & Benefits Manager to work with the Director of Finance and the Area Director of Human Resources to administer all payroll and compensation responsibilities for the hotel. Key Responsibilities Demonstrate a high level of integrity, provide a 5‑Star experience and set a positive example for colleagues in providing true Shangri‑La hospitality from the heart. Manage the hotel’s benefits programs—including enrollments, changes, extended health care benefits, and other benefits and administrative processes.

Manage administration for colleague changes, absences, compensation adjustments, RRSP and DPSP contributions and complete paperwork to facilitate Service Canada requests. Prepare the company payroll in a correct and timely basis using Push Payroll software, assist in calculating manual payments, and process taxable benefits and deductions. Using Push Payroll software, manage time & attendance, colleague changes, enrollments, terminations, wage and salary adjustments, and export information to process bi‑weekly payroll.

Lead and participate in active labour management of the hotel, ensuring managers comply with productivity standards and use labour management software. Ensure processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, and terminations. Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures to recommend and implement changes for best‑practice operations.

Regularly audit payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc., to ensure compliance measures are in place. Analyze, evaluate and review labour audit spreadsheets and databases for data reporting and analysis purposes. Maintain a positive, professional and confidential rapport with all colleagues and ensure a collaborative approach to working relationships.

Prepare payroll journals and balance sheet reconciliation for related accounts. Ensure compliance with company, owner, statutory and fiscal requirements and timetables. Train management in payroll‑related software, timecard approvals and other relevant systems.

Perform monthly reconciliations of WSIB, benefits eligibility (monthly and bi‑annually), RRSP, etc. Manage payroll year‑end processing including T4s, benefit and payment reconciliation; assist Finance team for year‑end processes. Handle government requests including garnishment processing.

Undertake other ad‑hoc related responsibilities as required. About You Analytical, strong organization and multitasking skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Mathematical proficiency for complex calculations.

Technical competence in accounting, especially payroll. Excellent verbal and written communication in English; able to write policies and technical correspondence. Exceptional leadership that inspires commitment, loyalty, and motivation through progressive workplace practices.

Ethical conduct, integrity, and professionalism. Technology proficiency with Windows‑based accounting programs and online banking. Superior office administration, organization and multitasking skills.

Approachability and visibility to colleagues, managers, and executives. Decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; responsive and accurate. Conflict resolution ability with patience, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.

Emotional maturity and respect in interactions. Minimum three years of previous experience in a similar capacity within a reputable organization. Previous experience with Push Payroll software is preferred.

Thorough knowledge of WSIB, pay and benefits administration. Experience in payroll processing and clerical background. Experience in Human Resources Management an asset.

Maintaining a professional designation as a Certified Payroll Professional is preferred. Knowledge of Ontario pay and benefits administration and WSIB is preferred. Certification in Accounting, Finance or equivalent preferred.
