Your Opportunity We are looking for a talented senior process mechanical engineer and project manager focused on the planning and engineering design of municipal and industrial water/wastewater infrastructure projects. The role supports projects across British Columbia and throughout Western Canada from the Burnaby office.

Key Responsibilities Lead as Process‑Mechanical Lead acting as Professional of Record and Qualified Professional for municipal wastewater treatment projects. Provide technical direction and foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to achieve project excellence.

Mentor junior and intermediate staff, cultivating a culture of learning and innovation. Drive client engagement and strategic business development, contributing to proposals and building lasting relationships. Oversee budgets, schedules, and quality assurance processes to ensure successful project delivery.

Consistently demonstrate a commitment to the Health and Safety culture within Stantec. Work with Sector Leaders and Stantec’s many multidisciplinary operations centers in Western Canada to support process mechanical engineering projects. Manage projects of varying complexity within multidisciplinary teams.

Assist business leaders in project revenue forecasting. Manage technical tasks including design work, calculations, equipment sizing and selection, writing specifications and technical reports, and performing feasibility studies on municipal infrastructure projects. Attend and lead meetings with clients, team members and sub‑consultants.

Prepare engineering documents and contract documents by developing construction specifications, plans and schedules. Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects. Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract‑administration tasks.

Participate in basic cost estimating under the direction of technical leaders to support engineering projects. Involvement in regional industry professional associations. Provide independent and quality reviews for peers on other proposals or project deliverables within your technical subject matter expertise.

Serve as a technical advisor for the team as a senior technical resource. Experience with the design/support of water treatment and conveyance infrastructure is a bonus. Capabilities and Credentials Proven technical skills applicable to delivering process‑mechanical projects including engineering calculations, literature reviews, specifications, drawing preparations, and cost estimating.

Proficiency in wastewater modelling tools (BioWin, GPS‑X, SUMO) and familiarity with design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, Revit, Plant 3D). Understanding of local and regional jurisdictional codes, legal and design requirements. Broad general understanding of municipal engineering, hydraulics, and process‑mechanical systems design and industry standards.

General understanding of construction methods and their site disturbance impacts. Understanding of the phases of engineering and capital project delivery, client procurement procedures, and regulatory approval processes. Experience managing client expectations and engineering budgets.

Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines. Works effectively in a team environment without direct supervision. Proficient writer and communicator.

Completion of business‑development training and certifications is an asset. Completion of a Master’s or PhD in water/wastewater treatment process or mechanical engineering disciplines is considered an asset. Holds a valid driver’s licence.

Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Process, Environmental, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC (other provinces an asset). Minimum of 10+ years progressive experience in municipal wastewater treatment plant planning, design and construction.

Pay Range Locations in Lower Mainland – BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario: $111,700.00 – $167,600.00 annually. In compliance with pay‑transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions where required. The final agreed compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.

At Stantec, certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
