Job Description

The CNN team is building the next-generation CMS platform—a cloud-native system designed to power all of CNN's journalism worldwide and serve as a hub for new products and growth. The platform spans the breadth of engineering disciplines from tuning globally available databases to immersive front‑end user experiences. Primary Responsibilities Contribute to the architecture and implementation of front-end systems with a focus on performance and reliability.

Contribute to code & architecture reviews and champion best practices for the organization by defining and evolving engineering standards. Work primarily in modern JavaScript using AWS services and mentor peers in those languages and tools. Code!

Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write. Support others on your team through code reviews, pairing, and collaboration. Fail up, learn from research and experiments, and ultimately choose the best solution to succeed the company objectives.

Follow a progressive development methodology, moving from proofs of concept to prototypes to production releases. Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering to define MVPs and iterate toward launch of new business products. Stay abreast of industry trends and announcements, understand how changes can impact the business, and raise concerns or propose solutions to mitigate.

Requirements BS degree in Computer Science, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience. Proven record of driving initiatives that involve changes in the engineering culture through evangelism and structured processes. Strong experience designing, deploying, and operating applications on AWS; solid command-line proficiency and familiarity with Git and Docker in AWS-based pipelines.

Extensive experience with modern JavaScript, building responsive UIs and scalable services with contemporary frameworks, state management, and API integration. Experience with observability tools (e.g., Datadog), feature flagging, and A/B testing frameworks. Experience writing and maintaining unit tests as part of a scalable development workflow.

Ability to review company goals and lead toward success, through discussion with engineering peers, proposals, and ultimately breaking down the solution into meaningful tasks to execute or delegate to the team. Deep industry experience with modern development technologies, and hands‑on familiarity with both client and server technology. Solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms.

A passion to grow professionally and continue developing along an individual contributor path. Nice to Have Experience developing in CMS platforms. Experience working on Kanban/Scrum teams and the tools used for project management.
