Job Description

\n

We continually strive to help our workforce achieve their professional and personal goals, engaging them in challenging and inspiring projects.

EOS โ€“ Who are we?\n

EOS is a world leader in designing, developing and building advanced technology products and services for the global defence and space domains. We develop and produce systems that can detect, identify, stabilise, control and communicate to inform strategic decision-making. EOS operates on the global stage and is a well-established member of the international defence and space communities.

\n

The Directed Energy group develops and demonstrates laser systems in the tens to hundreds of kilowatts class for counter-uncrewed aircraft system (C-UAS) and short range air defence roles, spanning the laser source, beam director, tracking and fire control, power and thermal management, and platform integration. This role covers everything above the control loop: the operator interface, the integration with external sensors and command and control systems, the health monitoring and telemetry, and the tooling that lets the team understand what the system actually did during a trial. A laser weapon is only useful if an operator under pressure can understand what it is doing and trust it.

Every role in this team spends time in the field. Our systems are proven at the test range and on trial sites, and you will be there when that happens.

Primary duties\n

The job plays a pivotal role in making EOS directed energy systems usable, interoperable and understandable, from the operator console to the wider air defence architecture. You will provide expertise in application development, external system integration, and the test and analysis tooling that supports development and trials.

Key Responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Develop operator-facing applications and interfaces for laser weapon system control, including situational awareness displays and engagement workflows.
  • \n
  • Implement integration with external systems including radar, electro-optic sensors and command and control or battle management systems.
  • \n
  • Develop system health monitoring, logging, telemetry and post-trial data analysis tooling.
  • \n
  • Build test automation, simulation and stimulation harnesses so the system can be exercised without full hardware availability.
  • \n
  • Contribute to interface control documents, and work with customers and partners to agree, implement and verify interfaces.
  • \n
  • Participate in code review, automated testing and continuous integration, and keep software documentation current.
  • \n
  • Support integration, trials and demonstrations at the test range, including instrumenting the system and turning findings around quickly.
  • \n
  • Work with operator and human factors input so that complex system behaviour is legible and safe under time pressure.
  • \n
Experience\n

Essential:

\n
    \n
  • Degree in software engineering, computer science or a related discipline.
  • \n
  • Minimum 3 years developing production software in C++ and Python.
  • \n
  • Experience building graphical operator applications, for example in Qt or a comparable framework.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated experience integrating systems over network protocols and message formats, and debugging them at the wire level.
  • \n
  • Practical experience with Linux development, version control and continuous integration.
  • \n
  • Willingness and ability to work directly with hardware and test equipment during integration and trials.
  • \n
  • Clear communication with engineers from other disciplines and with end users.
  • \n
  • Willingness to travel to the test range and trial sites regularly, including periods of out-of-hours work around demonstration campaigns.
  • \n
\n

Highly regarded:

\n
    \n
  • Exposure to defence interoperability standards used by the ADF, such as Cursor on Target, ASTERIX or relevant STANAGs.
  • \n
  • Experience with sensor data processing, target tracking or computer vision.
  • \n
  • Experience with simulation frameworks, synthetic environments or digital twins.
  • \n
  • Data visualisation or web technologies for engineering dashboards.
  • \n
\n

Our team come from a diverse range of disciplines and backgrounds and include engineers, scientists, technicians, project managers and administrative staff.

\n

EOS designs, develops, and builds the world's most accurate and highest precision remote weapon systems. EOS has designed, manufactured and exported advanced technology systems for nearly 40 years. Our product range covers remote weapon systems, turrets, high energy laser weapons, counter-drone systems, and space intelligence and space control services.
