Job Title Senior Research Applications Engineer Location Augusta University Job Summary Provide advanced technical expertise for the implementation, configuration, integration, and operational support of research applications and user-facing service platforms that support Augusta University's research enterprise, including research computing, HPC, and AI initiatives. This position is responsible for enabling researcher access to shared computing resources through well designed application workflows, integrations, documentation, and training. The Senior Research Applications Engineer leads application service delivery, workflow enablement, and user support to ensure research platforms align with institutional standards, compliance requirements, and evolving research needs while supporting effective and sustainable use of advanced research infrastructure.

Responsibilities Research Systems Design and Support: Design, install, configure, test, implement, maintain, and support research applications, open-source applications, user-facing service platforms, interfaces, and workflow solutions that support clinical, academic, and administrative research activities, including research computing, HPC, and AI-enabled services. Stakeholder Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborate with faculty, researchers, business units, vendors, open-source communities, and IT teams to define requirements, validate solutions, and coordinate implementations aligned with research priorities, institutional standards, compliance requirements, and evolving user needs. Systems Integration and Automation: Build, support, and maintain integrations, interoperability solutions, APIs, data exchanges, reporting capabilities, and automation processes across assigned research applications, open-source platforms, enterprise systems, HPC services, and AI-enabled environments.

Business Analysis and Optimization: Analyze user needs, application issues, service workflows, and business requirements to deliver enhancements, modifications, and scalable solutions that improve research operations and enable researcher access to shared computing resources. Application Support and Operations: Perform application and interface testing, change management, release support, and production troubleshooting to ensure stable, secure, and reliable operation of research applications, open-source platforms, user-facing services, and related environments. Technical Documentation and Training: Develop and maintain technical documentation, configuration records, user procedures, knowledge resources, and training materials that support effective adoption and sustainable use of research applications, open-source tools, HPC services, and AI-enabled platforms.

Support: Perform other duties as assigned in support of research computing, HPC, open-source application services, AI-enabled services, and institutional priorities. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and at least six years of experience supporting complex computing or data environments, or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and eight years of experience supporting complex computing or data environments. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting research application services in a higher education, research, or academic medical center environment.

Experience supporting application integrations across research and enterprise platforms in a complex institutional setting. Experience supporting secure, compliant, and service-oriented application environments used for research activities. Proficiency with scripting, automation, version control, and related tools used in application support and operational efficiency.

Experience working in cross-functional teams with architects, engineers, vendors, and research stakeholders to deliver technical solutions. Experience with research application services and platforms, including tools that support research computing, HPC, AI, and enterprise research activities. Experience with application support, APIs, ETL workflows, secure data exchange, and database connectivity across institutional platforms.

Experience troubleshooting, automation, performance support, documentation, and service delivery in complex application environments. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge Knowledge of research application platforms and services that support research operations, data collection, workflow enablement, and enterprise research activities. Knowledge of application configuration, deployment, integration, and operational support practices.

Knowledge of databases, APIs, ETL processes, and secure data transfer methods used in institutional and research environments. Knowledge of compliance frameworks and institutional standards, including HIPAA, FERPA, GDPR, and IRB requirements. Knowledge of scripting, automation, version control, and technical support practices used in application administration.

Skills Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Application configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting in research and enterprise environments. System integration, API support, ETL workflow development, and secure data exchange.

Scripting, automation, and operational support for application services. Technical documentation, knowledge-base development, and user support. Strong written and verbal communication, customer service, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality. Design, implement, support, and optimize research applications and related service platforms. Analyze application, integration, and workflow issues and develop effective technical solutions.

Build and maintain secure application workflows and integrations across multiple institutional and research platforms. Apply compliance, governance, and security standards to application services and operational environments. Collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, vendors, and research stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required). Salary: $95,200 annually to $121,400 annually. Pay Band: B16.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Benefits: Health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.

Eligible employees after 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program. Conditions of Employment All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University. If applicable for specific duties, a credit check may be required for Positions of Trust or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.

Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that require driving an Augusta University vehicle. For faculty hires, final candidates must provide proof of completed academic degree(s) and post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcripts. Those trained by a foreign institution must also provide an educational/credential evaluation.
