Overview The Senior Project Engineer role is part of the Engineering Management Centre of Excellence group within the Engineering Management Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The role supports the delivery of Engineering Services on a large civil infrastructure project in Calgary. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the senior engineer will assist in planning, design, and execution of civil infrastructure components for a major LRT project and will coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with engineering standards and deliver the project on schedule and within budget.
Your Role Review and validate design submissions, technical reports and engineering deliverables for compliance with project requirements, codes and standards. Provide technical guidance to project teams to ensure constructability, safety and lifecycle considerations are integrated into design decisions. Act as a key interface between client, design consultants, contractors and internal delivery teams.
Monitor engineering progress, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedule and budget. Support procurement activities, including technical specifications, bid evaluations and contract documentation. Coordinate design changes, RFIs and technical clarifications to ensure timely resolution.
Work closely with the Contracts Lead to ensure engineering inputs align with commercial and contractual requirements. Assist in reviewing contractor submissions for contractual compliance, including change requests, claims and variations. Help identify potential contractual risks arising from engineering or design issues and support mitigation strategies.
Support environmental, safety and quality management processes throughout design and construction. Collaborate with municipal authorities, utility providers, transit agencies and regulatory bodies. Provide engineering support during construction, including site reviews, issue resolution and verification of contractor work.
About You Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems or related field). Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada or eligibility for registration. 10+ years of engineering experience on major infrastructure or transit projects. Proven experience working in a delivery partner, owner’s engineer or EPC environment.
Strong understanding of LRT or rail systems, including civil works, track, systems and operations. Strong understanding of Canadian engineering codes, standards and construction practices. Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.
