- Salary ranges from $133,348 to $146,945 p.a. plus superannuation and annual leave loading
The Senior Officer Assessments leads the assessment and review of applications under Division 5.1 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 on behalf of the department.
Key accountabilities- Lead application assessments and ensure compliance with planning requirements.
- Provide advice and reports to support decisions on complex projects.
- Build strong relationships with government agencies, councils and project teams.
- Set assessment scope, milestones and targets, and monitor progress.
- Manage contractors and advise applicants on planning requirements.
- Lead timely assessment of applications to support school building priorities and legislative requirements.
- Balance planning requirements with school delivery programs and influence stakeholders to support timely outcomes.
- Improve systems and processes to strengthen self‑assessment and achieve key targets and deliverables.
- Apply environmental assessment and planning legislation, including the EP&A Act 1979.
- Manage a portfolio of projects governed by statutory planning requirements.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Management/Environmental Science, Engineering, and Project Management

The selection process will include a range of assessment techniques to assist in determining your suitability for the role. Successful candidates will be required to undertake pre‑employment screening for this role which includes a National Criminal History Check.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates not currently employed by the Department must provide a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance number. Renewal is not required after the WWCC expires, as long as you remain in a non–child‑related role. Employer obligations only apply while the WWCC is valid
