Job Description

King County Department of Information Technology (KCIT’s) Platform Applications team is seeking highly skilled Senior IT Engineers to support and administer our application portfolio and participate as a technical resource in application projects.
Successful candidates will have knowledge and experience with software administration, scripting, as well as basic knowledge of SQL databases, Windows server administration, possess an understanding of operating systems, server virtualization, storage, networking technologies and an entry level proficiency in Azure Cloud services. Skills include troubleshooting complex technical issues, having the ability to mitigate risks through innovative technical solutions, and resolve Level 2 and Level 3 system issues. Responsibilities include creating documentation, writing automation scripts, performing lifecycle management, planning, and implementing work tasks, and resolving technical issues.
This role will collaborate with vendors, colleagues and business partners to enhance services and design solutions that meet business requirements, driving automation and best practices to improve consistency and customer experience. Additionally, as a technical resource for new and upgrade software projects, these positions are responsible for contributing technology aspects of projects: including the design, engineering, implementation, and operational support of application solutions that comply with KCIT standards. They will participate in change management, conceptual design review, architectural review, and risk mitigation processes.
Lifecycle management: Work with correct teams to establish and upgrade application systems software, servers, databases snd integrations. Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate progress with customers and stakeholders, while collaborating with vendors, and KCIT cross-functional teams. Act as final point of escalation in application system support.
Establish and support system documentation and cross-train team members on technical systems. Act as technical lead for application projects, overseeing KCIT technical requirements for systems and coordinating and collaborating with customers, stakeholders, vendors and KCIT cross-functional teams. Build presentations and present for architectural reviews for phase gate approval.
Utilize organizational and time management skills while balancing several ongoing projects and system maintenance. Regularly interact with customers, vendors, and cross-functional KCIT teams. Continuously learn about and apply knowledge on technologies and systems being utilized within KCIT.
Six or more years experience using Microsoft tools and products. Knowledge of application support, hard drive operating systems, server virtualization, server storage and server certificates, networking technologies, databases, and security protocols. Oversee technical aspects of projects and deliverables including: participating in architectural design, documentation, training, change management, and security protocol configuration.
Work with vendors, customers, stakeholders, and KCIT cross-functional teams to implement application solutions. Use of AzDO to track multiple, ongoing work efforts and utilize time management skills, possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate effective customer service. Provide application portfolio lifecycle support, act as Tier 2 and 3 support for application requests and incidents acting as final escalation point including: write scripts for process automation, standardize operational processes, ensure system technologies are kept current and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Experience in utilizing PowerShell to develop scripts, monitoring systems using ORION, SCOM or similar systems, experience with AD groups, MIM and Entra access. Experience in working with VPN tunnels, and establishing SSO and SSL, renewing server certs, experience using CMDBs, and upgrading software systems. Experience in major incident responses, advanced troubleshooting skills, experience in root cause analysis and problem management, expertise in data collection and analysis skills.

The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is the Chinook Building, 401 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Work Schedule The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position will participate in After Hours Support as needed.
