Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/week) No. of positions: 1 About the job: Job Location: Edmonds 08 Region: Lower Mainland Flexible Work Role: Hybrid What you’ll do The Transmission Stations Division is gearing up for major capital construction of new substations and expanding existing transmission facilities across the system, including key projects in the North Coast region. Our work supports sustainable growth and electrification throughout our province. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer focused on major substation equipment including: power transformers, instrument transformers, capacitor banks, STATCOM and other FACTS equipment, power cables, switchgear, circuit breakers, Gas Insulated Switchgear, disconnect switches, battery systems etc.
Leads equipment specification, procurement strategy, technical evaluation, design reviews, and accept factory and field testing. Ensures compliance through Owner’s Engineer role; ensures compliance; guides others; contributes to best practice adoption. Leads vendor development and technology adoption.
Leads complex studies; assesses priorities & risk at project level for equipment application. Provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to junior staff. Provide Professional of Record assurance for safe energization during commissioning.
What you bring Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably power engineering) recognized by Canadian Universities. Higher educational qualifications will be treated accordingly. Must be registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a P.Eng with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
Minimum of eight (8)+ years of experience in a relevant field, including experience in North American electric utilities, industrial or manufacturing plants. Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, team leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment of complex multistage projects, including planning, estimating, cost control and managing project resources.
Advanced knowledge of electrical power equipment (12kV to 500kV), including design, manufacturing, testing, maintenance and/or operations experience. Strong experience in equipment specification, procurement, electrical design, power system planning, or protection & control design. Ability to develop procurement strategies, participate in strategic sourcing, vendor analysis, negotiation, design review and equipment acceptance.

What else you should know This is a Full Time Regular Position This is a hybrid position, however the successful candidate will be required to work from the office for a pre-specified number of days, details to be discussed in the recruitment process. Applicants who do not meet the full qualifications or those with lesser work experience may be considered for a lower level position. Will be required to occasionally travel to different areas of the province.
