Pension plans include guaranteed income via a defined benefit. About the role We are seeking an engineer in root cause investigation for our Claims Service. The selected candidate will play an essential role in supporting our growth.

In the context of ongoing efforts to better control claim management and improve the insured experience during incidents, Intact is building a leading internal team in technical investigation of cause and origin of incidents. Key Responsibilities Assist the claims team in guiding the settlement process for fire‑related claims rapidly and efficiently. Execute mandates for internal and external experts and collaborate with building assessors.

Meet insured individuals and understand circumstances surrounding their claim; investigate on incident sites to establish fire cause and circumstances such as explosion, electrical equipment failure, professional negligence or other. Document sites, record and communicate probable cause opinions; contribute to resolving claim conflicts with technical expertise. Participate in joint investigations of parts and specimens related to fire origin.

Record and manage storage of parts related to cases. Perform other related tasks as required. Required Knowledge Advanced knowledge of buildings, construction methods, heat transfer modes, and laws governing fire spread.

Understanding and identifying causal elements through investigative and research processes; eliminate other possible causes. Recreate the event sequence leading to incident and validate steps with up‑to‑date scientific knowledge. Apply scientific methods to identify causes of incidents.

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or relevant applied sciences with at least five years of experience. Member in good standing of a professional order related to the relevant scientific field. Bilingual (French, English) – required to interact regularly with colleagues across the country.

Required Skills 2 to 10 years of relevant experience as a forensic engineer investigating origins and causes of fires. Technical knowledge and physical aptitude for the role; communicate orally and in writing to explain cause and origin. Write concise or detailed reports for significant losses.

Testimony in court to present expert opinion. Experience in insurance and as an expert before courts is a strong advantage. Certification Candidate must possess or be on track to obtain CFI, CFEI, CFVI or WETT certification.
