Salary Range: $175,000.00 To $200,000.00 Annually Senior Director of Finance Remote, Chicago, or New York City | Full-Time Overview Fifty Thousand Feet is an independent, global design consultancy that builds timeless brands for discerning audiences. Our work spans brand strategy and identity, marketing communications, digital experiences, and integrated campaigns—bringing together strategy, design, and technology to help brands connect more deeply with their customers. We are seeking a Senior Director of Finance with deep experience in agency and services-based businesses, and exposure to mergers and acquisitions, to provide financial leadership across the organization.
This role partners closely with executive leadership to ensure strong financial planning, operational rigor, and clear insight in support of sustainable growth and informed decision-making. The Role The Senior Director of Finance oversees the firm’s financial strategy, planning, and operations, with a particular focus on services economics, utilization, margin management, and growth through acquisition. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring ownership of close, controls, and external financial reporting—not a pure FP analyze variances, drivers, and profitability by client, practice, and geography Prepare and present monthly and annual financial packages with performance narratives, variance analysis, and key insights Translate financial results into implications for pricing, resourcing, margin, and growth Accounting & Financial Operations Own and oversee the full monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accuracy, discipline, and consistency Package monthly and annual financials into clear, executive- and lender-ready reporting, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and supporting schedules Oversee accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition for services engagements Ensure financial statements are complete, well-documented, and audit-ready Continuously improve financial systems, controls, and close cadence to support a growing, multi-entity services business Compliance, Controls & External Reporting Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and lender reporting requirements Coordinate year-end close, audits, tax filings, and bank covenant and lender reporting Serve as the primary finance contact for external accountants, auditors, and banking partners Identify financial risks and implement appropriate controls and mitigation strategies Cash Flow, Capital, M&A Support Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity planning Oversee banking relationships and credit facilities, as applicable Support mergers and acquisitions, including financial diligence, modeling, integration planning, and post-acquisition performance tracking Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and professional development plans Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field 10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting Demonstrated experience in agency, consulting, or professional services environments Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, GAAP, and services revenue recognition Proven ownership of end-to-end close processes Experience managing finance or accounting teams Preferred CPA, CFA, and/or MBA Hands-on experience supporting M&A transactions, including diligence and integration Experience partnering closely with executive leadership in growth-oriented or PE-backed organizations Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of services-based business economics and financial drivers Strategic and analytical thinker with sound business judgment Clear, confident communicator with strong presentation skills High attention to detail with the ability to see broader business implications Collaborative leader with strong problem-solving skills Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems (QuickBooks / ERP experience a plus) Reporting & Collaboration Reports to: Chief Operating Officer Partners closely with the CEO and executive leadership team Works cross-functionally with department heads across the firm Our Commitment At Fifty Thousand Feet, we believe that building and sustaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to creating meaningful work.
