Job Description

This is an evolving and developing role so responsibilities may change over time. Flexibility to support the changing business will be important.

Reporting to and working closely with the Business Insights Team Lead within the Data & Analytics (D&A) Business Insights Team, this role plays a key part in delivering actionable insights that support decision‑making at all levels of the organisation. The team leverages advanced analytics and data science approaches to enable both short‑ and long‑term strategic outcomes.

As a Senior Business Insights Analyst, you will lead the design, delivery and ownership of complex analytics use cases or semantic layers, acting as a senior technical authority within the Business Insights team. You will partner with stakeholders to shape problem definitions, guide solution design, and ensure analytics outputs drive measurable business outcomes.

A critical aspect of the role is continuously improving analytics processes and standards, promoting and enabling the use of a standardised analytics toolkit across the organisation. You will champion best practices, foster consistency through forums and communities of practice, and contribute to the ongoing evaluation and optimisation of tools, processes and ways of working to meet evolving business needs.

In addition, you will play a key role in bridging analytics and data science, applying a working understanding of advanced analytical and modelling techniques to interpret, challenge, and enhance solutions delivered across the wider Data & Analytics function.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities associated with this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Enabling and undertaking complex and ambiguous analytical initiatives, independently applying and adapting established analytical methods to new problems, from problem definition through to actionable recommendations.
  • Providing business insights and analytics solutions effectively while adhering to standards, tools, processes, and best practice to ensure alignment across all business areas.
  • Take ownership of specific analytics domains, use cases, or business areas, acting as the primary analytical lead from problem framing through to delivery and ongoing optimisation.
  • Lead the design of analytical solution approaches, selecting and combining appropriate data, analytics, and (where relevant) data science techniques to address complex business challenges
  • Contribute to defining and evolving analytics standards, reusable patterns, and best practices, ensuring consistency and scalability across solutions (aligned with Lead direction).
  • Challenge assumptions and requests constructively, ensuring analytical effort is focused on high‑value outcomes.
  • Present complex analyses and insights in a clear, compelling narrative suitable for executive and non‑technical audiences, adapting communication to different stakeholder groups and levels of seniority.
  • Adhere and contribute proactively to our operating model of Hub & Spoke by assisting central teams, business unit analysts, communities of practice and business users with technical guidance, peer review, and support on analytical approaches and storytelling.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and technical oversight to Business Insights Analysts, including review and sign‑off of complex analytical outputs where appropriate.
  • Promote consistent standards in analytics design, documentation, and delivery across the organisation.
  • Critically assess new and existing tools, platforms, and techniques, contributing to structured recommendations that influence the evolution of analytics capabilities and operating practices.
  • Analyse and optimise existing analytics processes, identifying improvements to efficiency, quality, and consistency, and contributing to the development of new processes where required.
  • Ensure analytics outputs align with cross‑functional processes and understand the downstream impact of analytics decisions on other business units.
  • Balance agility and governance by ensuring solutions align with enterprise data models, semantic layers, and governance standards, avoiding duplication and data silos.
  • Work closely with the Data Science Lead and Solutions Team to ensure solutions are designed for scalability, automation, and productionisation, including clear handover into operational environments.
  • Apply a working (light) knowledge of data science techniques and models (e.g. regression, classification, clustering, forecasting) to:
  • Interpret outputs from data science solutions
  • Identify opportunities where advanced techniques may add value
  • Collaborate effectively with Data Scientists in solution design and validation
  • Demonstrate An Post Values and behaviours in your day‑to‑day work and address behaviour that supports/conflicts with them.

You will have hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric and its integrated capabilities for data engineering, data science/analytics and visualisation. Proficiency in building and managing lakehouses, pipelines, and semantic models within Fabric is essential. Strong knowledge of T‑SQL/SQL and experience with Python for advanced analytics is expected.

Familiarity with Power BI for interactive reporting and data storytelling is critical, along with excellent data analytics and organisational skills. You have a proven ability to transform complex datasets into clear, actionable insights through effective visualisation and narrative techniques.

Familiarity with core data science techniques, model types, and evaluation concepts, with the ability to interpret and apply these in a business analytics context.

You have strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience engaging senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
