Job Description
Position Summary The Senior Business Analyst serves as the key support to the Administrative Director and Director of Operations to manage the department’s clinical operations, finance, strategy and research, as well as personnel management. Responsibilities include preparing spreadsheets, charts, correspondence, onboarding, generating presentations and drafting documents, following up on meeting‑generated tasks, producing budget reports, and managing clinical, operations and research process improvement projects. The role is performed autonomously, setting priorities and making independent, complex decisions.
Position Details Position: Senior Business Analyst Department: Neurology Administration Location: Boston, MA Schedule: 20 hours per week Job Responsibilities Technical Lead Functions Utilize various software tools for data extraction and analysis to support projects and provide ad‑hoc reports for research senior management. Analyze complex problems where evaluation of multiple dependent and co‑dependent factors is required. Assist with and/or create project documentation including functional, technical and conceptual design specifications, requirements/due diligence, use‑cases, testing scenarios, and process flow charts.
Assist in Software/Systems implementations and integrations. Work with IT to support internal clinical and research teams on major conversions, upgrades and enhancements. Project / Multiple Projects Lead Functions Conduct interviews to gather business requirements, understand and map the full life cycle of business processes to ensure compliance with internal and external policies.
Act as liaison between internal and external stakeholders to define, document and review business and system requirements. Participate in and support other Research initiatives/projects as an internal resource. Participate in process design or improvement initiatives.
Combine multiple large datasets in Microsoft Excel, RedCap and/or Access, exceeding intermediate skill level. Perform database management and build queries, tables, and e‑forms. Coordinate activities and project work with other departments to meet BMC customer expectations.
Oversee/coordinate specific projects, provide leadership in project management, gather deliverables, track, analyze and report status, resolve issues, and compare program performance against charter, budget, and plan. Training Lead / Mentoring Junior Team Members Functions Work with user groups (internal and external) to provide training, resolve questions, assess user needs, and recommend changes to automated systems. Document and update documentation for all internal system application and integration projects, including user and internal documentation.
Independently compose high‑level correspondence and documents with professional quality; edit and proofread written materials and verify data validity prior to submission and distribution. Team Lead / Cross‑Functional / Budgetary Responsibilities Assist with monitoring grant budgets and account balances and help managers review research budget variances. Execute internal and external process audits and provide quality assurance reviews.
Provide standard operating reports for administrative activities at a departmental level. Support surgeons, ancillary clinical staff, and senior management as needed. Analyze metric reports to identify and interpret trends, variances, and business performance; communicate findings clearly and concisely.
Provide administrative support to the Department of Orthopedics, including following up on meeting‑generated tasks, preparing documents, spreadsheets, and presentation slides. Prepare meeting agendas, information packages, and minutes. Handle highly sensitive, confidential written, electronic, and oral communications with discretion and independent judgment.
Apply hospital behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and support the department and hospital mission and goals. Provide general clerical support including filing, scheduling, photocopying, faxing, bulk mailing, and maintaining contact databases. Perform other related duties as required.
Must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards. Education Bachelor’s degree with a focus on IT, Healthcare, Business Administration, or sciences. Experience At least 4 years’ experience in IT, healthcare, computer science, or data analytics roles or industry.
One year of background in relational databases and systems implementations strongly desired, but not required. Knowledge and Skills Superior verbal and written English communication skills, including excellent grammar, editing, and proofreading. Proficiency with database visualization and management query software (SQL, Tableau).
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook). Compensation Range $66,000.00 – $96,000.00.
This range is an estimate based on the minimum qualifications and includes base pay, benefits, and potential bonuses. The range may be adjusted based on geographic location and other factors. Note This range is based on Boston‑area data and may be modified for other geographic locations.
