Let’s skip the usual script
Every accounting ad talks about “career progression”, “great culture” and “work-life balance”.
They’re easy things to say. We’d rather tell you what they actually look like at MGI.
Yes, we have the fun stuff.
An active Social Club. Weekly Work n Sip Fridays. Monthly firm events. $400 a year in rewards to celebrate your birthday and work anniversary, plus $150 monthly recognition awards nominated by your peers.
That might be the fun stuff that catches your attention.
But what about the work? The real stuff that determines whether you actually enjoy your job and build a career here?
You’ll work with quality clients — and with our Directors.
We’re a chartered accounting and advisory firm, and the advisory part isn’t marketing.
Our Directors work directly with clients on restructures, M&A transactions, business valuations, rollovers and external CFO engagements — and as a Senior Accountant, you’ll work alongside them.
You won’t be hidden behind layers of hierarchy or spend years waiting for exposure to clients.
Your week could include:
Managing your own portfolio of SME and mid-market clients end to end
Building direct relationships with business owners
Financials, tax returns and planning across companies, trusts, partnerships and SMSFs
Genuine involvement in restructures, valuations and transaction work
Management reporting and CFO-style engagements for growing businesses
Reviewing work and mentoring junior team members
Working directly with Managers, Associate Directors and Directors on complex client matters
Progression here is based on merit — genuinely
We operate as a meritocracy.
Your career progression isn't determined by how long you've occupied a chair or whether you have waited for someone above you to move on.
It comes down to your performance, capability and the contribution you make.
There is no set timeframe or cap on how quickly you can progress from Senior Accountant to Manager and beyond. If you demonstrate that you're ready for the next step, we want to have that conversation.
And when opportunities arise, our first preference is always to look at our own people before going to market.
Our most recent Associate Director appointments have come from within the firm, and our Associate Director structure creates a genuine pathway for people who want to build their own client base and continue progressing.
You'll also have monthly 1:1s focused on you - your performance, development, goals and where you want your career to go.
No waiting for an annual review to talk about what comes next.
We invest in how you work
Technology isn't an afterthought here.
We actively invest in our IT and systems and want our people exploring how technology and AI can make us better accountants and advisers.
That means challenging inefficient processes, automating where it makes sense and using technology to spend less time on repetitive work and more time actually helping clients.
If you're someone who sees a process and thinks there has to be a better way to do this, you'll fit in well.
The practical stuff
Hybrid working — three days in our Brisbane CBD office and two from home
Genuine flexibility around how you structure your day
CA/CPA study support and structured technical development
A team that will laugh at your jokes if they’re any good
Who we’re after
CA/CPA qualified or nearing completion
4+ years' experience in Australian public practice
Strong technical grounding across income tax, GST, FBT and Div 7A
Comfortable building relationships with clients
Someone who wants more than a compliance queue
Someone who wants to keep learning, take ownership and see where their career can go
One more thing - if you apply directly and join us, we'll also offer a sign-on bonus equivalent to the recruitment fee we would otherwise have paid an agency on successful completion of probation.
Strict confidence, a straightforward recruitment process and no six-round interview marathon.
