Senior Accountant

MAVI partners with high-growth US startups and SMEs, embedding experienced accounting professionals directly within their finance teams. This is not a traditional accounting role — you will carry the close for US clients and own real areas of their books in a fast-moving environment.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Accountant, you will run the day-to-day accounting for US clients, reporting to the client's Controller or finance lead.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role. You will see the close from first accrual to final statement and own the parts that are usually spread across three people, with a US finance lead reviewing your work and available when a call needs to be made above your level. It suits someone who wants to carry a full set of books rather than process a queue within them, and who fixes a broken process rather than working around it each month.

What You Will Own

• Carry end-to-end accounting (Record-to-Report) for US clients on a defined close calendar
• Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles, with accountability for cycle time and the quality of what you deliver
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed asset schedules, and month-end adjustments, with support attached
• Prepare financial statements under US GAAP for Controller review, and answer for the numbers you produced
• Own the balance sheet reconciliation process and drive ageing items to resolution rather than reporting them
• Maintain the supporting schedules behind the balances — prepaid amortisation, accrual detail, fixed asset registers, deferred revenue rollforwards
• Handle and review AP, AR, payroll accounting, and cash reporting for accuracy and correct coding
• Prepare variance analysis with root-cause commentary, in terms someone outside finance can act on
• Act as a day-to-day US client contact, building strong working relationships with their finance team
• Prepare PBC deliverables and respond directly to auditor queries in your areas through to resolution
• Operate within the client's accounting policies and controls, and flag where a control is followed in form but not in substance
• Maintain the close checklists and SOPs that keep the close reproducible without depending on any single individual
• Propose process improvements and automation that shorten the close

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of accounting experience with strong US GAAP exposure
• Demonstrated ownership of a full close cycle end to end, rather than contribution to one part of it
• Experience preparing full financial statements, including cash flow, for review
• Strong reconciliation discipline and the judgment to know when a balance does not look right
• Experience supporting an audit, including PBC preparation and direct auditor contact
• ERP experience (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Toast, or similar)
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets, including comfort building schedules others can follow
• CA / CPA / ACCA (or equivalent), or active progress toward one, preferred
• Excellent English communication, with the ability to explain an accounting outcome to a non-accountant
• Ability to work with US time zone overlap
