Senior Accident Benefits Paralegal / Accident Benefits Practice Manager

Nanda & Associate Lawyers P.C. is seeking an experienced Senior Accident Benefits Paralegal / Accident Benefits Practice Manager to take a leadership role within our Personal Injury practice.
This is not simply a file-handling position. We are looking for an experienced Accident Benefits professional who can take ownership of an existing AB practice, move files forward, achieve settlements, provide excellent client service, and help us grow the practice.
The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's lawyers and management and will have the opportunity to become a key member of our Personal Injury team.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage a portfolio of Ontario Accident Benefits files from intake through resolution
- Conduct an initial review and develop a strategy for existing AB files
- Proactively identify opportunities to move files toward settlement
- Negotiate settlements with insurers, adjusters and opposing counsel
- Manage disputes before the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT), including applications, case conferences, motions and hearings
- Review insurer denials, treatment plans, medical documentation, assessments and insurer examinations
- Identify and protect all applicable limitation periods
- Maintain regular and meaningful communication with clients and ensure clients understand the status and strategy of their files
- Address and resolve client-service issues proactively
- Maintain effective file management, follow-up and diary systems
- Supervise and mentor junior AB staff as the practice grows
- Work with the firm's lawyers on complex or strategic matters
- Assist with screening and onboarding prospective Personal Injury and Accident Benefits clients
- Develop relationships with referral sources and participate in appropriate business-development initiatives
- Provide management with regular reporting regarding file progress, upcoming deadlines, settlement opportunities and overall performance of the AB practice
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant hands-on experience managing Ontario Accident Benefits files
- Strong working knowledge of the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS)
- Demonstrated experience with LAT proceedings and settlements
- A track record of independently moving files toward resolution
- Strong negotiation skills and confidence dealing with insurers and opposing counsel
- Excellent client-management and communication skills
- Strong organizational and file-management abilities
- The ability to identify problems early and develop practical solutions
- The confidence and experience to take responsibility for a practice rather than simply work assigned tasks
- Leadership qualities and the ability to supervise and mentor support staff
- A strong sense of accountability and urgency
A Law Society of Ontario Paralegal Licence is strongly preferred.
Plaintiff-side Personal Injury/Accident Benefits experience is strongly preferred.
