Role Overview We are seeking a highly motivated Security Manager to join our team at Kingsway Mall. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the centre’s Security and Life Safety programs. This role is responsible for protecting the property, tenants, employees, and customers through the development and execution of comprehensive security, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation strategies.
The Security Manager leads a third‑party security service provider through established service standards, and fosters strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for the Security function, ensuring alignment with corporate standards and site objectives Drive a customer-first security culture, integrating safety with customer experience Maintain effective operational processes including SOPs, incident reporting, scheduling, and daily security procedures Coach and support supervisors to ensure strong frontline leadership and consistent service delivery Identify risks, trends, and opportunities, and implement continuous improvements to security programs Security, Life Safety & Emergency Management Develop, implement, and continuously enhance the Emergency, Fire & Life Safety Plans and Programs in collaboration with Operations, ensuring compliance with corporate, regulatory and provincial requirements Plan and lead quarterly safety drills and training exercises, including fire drills, evacuations, and emergency response scenarios (e.g. Lockdown) Ensure ongoing training and preparedness of tenants and internal teams for emergency response Oversee building access control systems, security technology, and related infrastructure, ensuring effectiveness and continuous improvement Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and program reviews to ensure readiness and compliance Third‑Party Security Contract Management Manage the third‑party security services contract, ensuring service delivery meets site and corporate standards Establish and communicate clear performance expectations, conduct standards, and customer service objectives Monitor and evaluate contractor performance, using objective, documented criteria Escalate service issues and request corrective action through contractor leadership, in accordance with corporate guidelines Stakeholder & Community Relations Build and maintain strong relationships with: Tenants and retail partners Edmonton Police Service, fire services, and emergency responders Community stakeholders and industry peers Collaborate with internal teams to support shared communication and inter‑departmental cooperation Support tenant openings, events, and high‑traffic periods with proactive security planning Lead tenant‑facing security awareness and training programs Health, Safety & Risk Management Ensure compliance with applicable Occupational Health & Safety legislation and corporate requirements Manage liability claims (e.g., medical incidents, slip and falls) in collaboration with risk and insurance teams Financial Management Develop and manage the Security operating and capital budgets, including forecasting, accruals, and cost control Identify opportunities to optimize service delivery and enhance value from contracted services Programs & Continuous Improvement Develop and implement security, loss prevention, and tenant awareness programs Lead special projects and corporate initiatives related to security and safety Monitor industry trends and emerging risks, recommending enhancements to site programs Drive a culture of continuous improvement across all security and life safety functions Qualifications Required 5-8 years of security experience, preferably in a retail or large public environment 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory experience First Aid & CPR Certification Preferred Post‑secondary education in Law Enforcement, Security, Justice Studies, or related field Training or certification in Emergency Management or Health & Safety Valid Security License Success Profile Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence without direct authority Customer-focused mindset with strong situational awareness Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and high‑pressure situations Strong understanding of risk management and regulatory compliance High level of professionalism, judgment, and integrity From hire to retire, we are an equal opportunity employer committed to an inclusive, barrier‑free recruitment and selection process that extends all the way through your employee experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
