Job Description
The Sales Manager is responsible for leading day‑to‑day sales operations, mentoring staff, and delivering an outstanding customer experience rooted in trust, expertise, and community. The role is hands‑on and collaborative, balancing time on the sales floor with planning, training, and coordination with service and operations. Opportunities with respect to hours and responsibilities may vary seasonally to reflect the natural ebb and flow of the cycling year.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications Lead by example through active selling and customer engagement Ensure customers receive knowledgeable, honest, and welcoming service Manage complex bike sales, special orders, and customer follow‑ups Address customer concerns and resolve issues with professionalism and care Train, coach, and support a diverse sales team with varying experience levels Coordinate scheduling to align with seasonal demand and staff availability Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture Provide feedback, guidance, and informal performance check‑ins Maintain clean, organized, and compelling product displays Work closely with ownership on product selection, pricing, and promotions Monitor inventory levels, special orders, and sales trends Share product knowledge with the team Shop Operations & Collaboration Coordinate closely with the service department to ensure smooth handoffs and realistic delivery timelines Support daily shop operations, including opening/closing and POS procedures Help plan and execute sales strategies during peak season, shoulder season, and winter months Contribute ideas that improve efficiency, customer experience, and profitability Seasonal and Schedule Flexibility Flexible arrangements may include adjusted schedules, condensed weeks, or partial off‑season hours, subject to negotiation Expectations and workload will be clearly communicated and revisited seasonally Qualifications & Experience A passion for outdoor activities and specifically cycling and/ or skiing is required! Experience in bicycle or sporting goods retail sales would be an asset, but not a requirement. Leadership or supervisory experience in a small team environment Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset Comfort working weekends and variable schedules during peak season Familiarity with POS systems and basic retail reporting Personal Attributes Genuine passion for cycling and local cycling culture Practical, hands‑on leadership style Adaptable, organized, and comfortable wearing multiple hats Values long‑term customer relationships over transactional sales A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are preferred.
