Job Description

Scope This role provides dedicated safety engineering support within an aerospace facility environment, supporting operational and test activities involving high-hazard systems. The position operates in a regulated setting, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, industry best practice, and safety standards, while contributing to major aerospace programmes. Responsibilities Conduct detailed risk assessments for activities involving hydrogen, nitrogen, and related mechanical, pressurised, and cryogenic systems Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring hazards are clearly identified and suitably controlled Identify and manage risks associated with flammable gases, oxygen deficiency hazards (ODH), pressure systems, confined spaces, and stored energy Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety regulations, including DSEAR, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, and Pressure Systems Safety Regulations Capture, review, and embed lessons learned from incidents and near misses, implementing corrective and preventive actions Support or lead incident investigations, applying structured root cause analysis methodologies Collaborate with Operations and Test Engineers to ensure risk assessments remain suitable and sufficient throughout planning and execution phases Provide ongoing safety advice, coaching, and technical support to engineers, contractors, and facility teams Support safety audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives Promote a proactive safety culture and encourage open hazard and near-miss reporting Required Experience Proven experience working in industrial, aerospace, or other high-hazard environments Demonstrable experience managing safety risks associated with hazardous gases, ideally hydrogen and nitrogen Experience reviewing contractor RAMS and supporting operational safety activities Experience working onsite within multidisciplinary engineering teams Required Skills Strong knowledge of structured risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, BowTie) Sound understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory compliance Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills Ability to deliver pragmatic safety solutions within operational and test environments Strong analytical and problem-solving capability Required Education Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Science
