You will work cross-functionally with design, quality, operations, and project teams to ensure manufacturability, quality, and cost performance. You'll also support robotic welding, laser welding, and continuous improvement efforts.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, document, and maintain welding and fabrication processes (e.g.
MIG, TIG, resistance, laser, robotic) for large assembliesProgram, support, and optimize ABB robotic welding systems (or other robotic platforms)Create and maintain WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), PQRs, and weld qualifications in line with AWS, ASME, and ISO standardsDesign weld sequences, fixture strategies, and tooling to control distortion, residual stress, and dimensional stabilityTroubleshoot and resolve weld defects (porosity, cracking, incomplete fusion, distortion) using root-cause analysisCollaborate with design engineering to influence geometry, tolerances, and material selection for better weldability and assembly reliabilityProvide hands-on support and training on the shop floor as neededPartner with quality/inspection groups to utilize NDT feedback (ultrasonic, radiographic, dye penetrant, etc.) to close the loop on issuesLead or support continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma) aimed at improving throughput, yield, and costTrack, report, and analyze process metrics (cycle time, scrap rate, rework, capacity) and propose improvementsSupport cost estimation and technical proposals (e.g. assessing welding/fixture costs, labor hours, and tooling)Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering, or equivalentMinimum 1 years of process engineering or welding engineering experience with large welded/fabricated assembliesHands-on expertise in multiple welding methods, including robotic and laser weldingExperience programming and supporting ABB robotic systems (or equivalent)Solid understanding of metallurgical behavior, material weldability, and heat treatments/coatingsFamiliarity with CAD, CAM, weld simulation, or process modeling toolsStrong working knowledge of AWS, ASME, ISO 9001 / ISO 9100, or applicable quality and industry standardsDemonstrated capability to work cross-functionally with design, operations, and QA teamsProven track record in leading process improvements, cost reduction, and quality enhancementsExcellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skillsInterested in hearing more?
