Rotation/Shifts

Days, evenings and nights, including weekends, 8 hour shifts (07:15-15:15, 07:30-15:30, 10:00-18:00, 15:15-23:15, 23:15-07:15). Stand by - 30 minutes return time to the O.R.

Basic Requirements

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Perioperative Nursing Certificate (or equivalent course) OR Operating Room Technician course (or equivalent course) with recent operating room experience (within the last 6-months);
  • Minimum three (3) months recent nursing experience;
  • Current BCLS;
  • Demonstrated ability with and knowledge of AIDET and other clinical tactics;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of operating room nursing principles and practice, and knowledge of basic operating room equipment;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of aseptic technique and an ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting;
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member in a work environment requiring precision, accuracy, quick response and collaborative approaches;
  • Demonstrates the ability to acquire additional skills to function effectively in an operating room nursing role;
  • Identifies a personal commitment to continuing education;
  • Demonstrates the ability to participate in self-evaluation;
  • Demonstrates a desire and ability to participate in patient teaching;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the application and relevance of the Quality Assurance Program and participates in unit activities;
  • Able to perform all tasks related to this position;
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in an oral and written format with the patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines;
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada;
