Job Description

• This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses at UMMC who have less than 12 months of experience.
• Competent in the required skills/knowledge and fully participates in unit governance.
• Practices and adheres to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter.
• Independently provides and coordinates care to patients within a clinical specialty.
• Serves as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.
• Demonstrates and models the full range of nursing professional practice and participates in the development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost effectiveness at the unit level.
• Accounts to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care.
• Accounts to peers for the advancement of group practice and to the nurse manager for total work performance.

Qualifications

• Competent evaluation with successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligibility to practice under Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing.
• Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education per year.
• Member of a professional organization.
• Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to lead others, such as effectiveness as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource.
• Ability to learn and use computer systems to manage patient information.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population served.
• Demonstrated/documented highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Patient Safety

• Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
• Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
• Reports adverse events and near misses to the appropriate management authority.
• Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, and devices and communicates them to those in charge.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $37.75
