Reports to : Production Director
Job Type : Full Time Basis (may be required to work from different company sites by agreement with line manager.)
Summary : The Quarry Manager is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the quarry, ensuring the extraction and production of quality aggregates to meet the customer and project requirements. This role involves overseeing all aspects of the quarry operations, including planning, production, maintenance and compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations including the quarry regulations 1999.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Quarry Operations Management: Plan and coordinate quarry activities, including drilling, blasting, crushing, screening, and material handling. Monitor production levels to meet demand and quality standards. Optimize quarry operations for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
2. Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance: Compliance with all HSE legislation, including the Quarries Regulations 1999, ISO 45001 (Health & Safety). 14001 (Environmental) and 9001 (Quality) and industry best practices. Ensure safety is integral to site activity and all colleagues and contractors are focussed on zero harm. Ensure the quarry operates within the scope of leases, planning consents and conditions. Ensure positive and proactive community relations are developed. Minimize the impact of quarry operations on the environment. Attend safety meetings and training for quarry staff. Report and Investigate safety incidents and near misses.
3. The Quarry Regulations 1999: NOTE: All operations defined as quarries under the Quarries Regulations 1999 must be managed by an Appointed 8.1c Quarry Manager and it is recommended that they hold a minimum Level 4 Health, Safety & Environmental and Minerals Processing Industries. The Quarry Manager will be the appointed 8.1c. Compliance with Quarries Regulations 1999
4. Quality Control: Monitor and maintain product quality to meet customer specifications. Conduct regular organoleptic quality tests and inspections. Liaise with Technical Manager on product matters.
5. Equipment and Maintenance: Supervise maintenance and repair of quarry equipment, such as crushers, conveyors, and loaders. Schedule regular equipment inspections and ensure timely maintenance.
6. Inventory and Materials Management: Manage inventory levels of aggregates to meet customer demands. Maintain accurate records of materials produced and dispatched.
7. Budgeting and Cost Management: Assist the finance team with developing and managing quarry budgets. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost-control measures.
8. Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise quarry personnel. Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork.
9. Reporting: Prepare required information on production, safety, and environmental compliance. Communicate with senior management on quarry performance through meetings or written format.

Attend and participate in relevant regular meetings, including committee, department, management meetings and management review. Continual Improvement - Assist with department and or company projects as instructed by the line manager.
Essential Criteria: Must have a full UK driving license as travel between sites or suppliers may be required. Able to demonstrate knowledge by degree, diploma or through relevant experience. Have a good knowledge of aggregate processing plant management, including experience of earthworks and restoration process.
Education and Preferred Qualifications: Proof of competence for a Regulation 8 appointment. Completed, or working towards a SHE NVQ Level 6 or above. IOSH Managing Safely.
Experience: Able to demonstrate knowledge by degree, diploma or have minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, and pervious experience in the quarrying industry. Excellent awareness of current Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation. A sound understanding of plant and machinery, including maintenance planning. Comprehensive understating of the Quarries Regulations.

Training and CPD Everyone must undertake training that has been identified for their roll by the company. You will be required to familiarise yourself with colleague roles to provide complimentary cover as instructed by your line manager. You will be required to perform any reasonable request by your line manager.
Working Conditions :
The Quarry Manager typically works in an office setting but will involve frequent site visits to company and or customer sites, exposure to outdoor and industrial environments and occasional travel. The candidate must be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and will be required to wear personal protective equipment when on site. They may also be required to work nights, weekends, or irregular hours to monitor operations effectively on an ad hoc basis as required.
Physical Requirements : Physical fitness to walk, climb and navigate uneven terrain. Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Salary and Benefits : £45,000 - £55,000 per annum. Employee Discount Scheme.
