Job Description

Role: Protection Engineer

Location: Lisbon, Portugal

Employment Type: Fixed-Term Contract (12 Months)


Key Responsibilities

  • Design Protection & Control schemes for HV/MV substations.
  • Perform protection coordination, relay setting calculations, and fault analysis.
  • Develop protection philosophies and engineering documentation.
  • Configure and commission numerical protection relays.
  • Support FAT, SAT, and site commissioning activities.
  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and vendor documentation.
  • Collaborate with Primary Design, Secondary Design, SCADA, and Electrical Engineering teams.
  • Ensure designs comply with IEC and utility standards.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5–8 years of experience in Protection Engineering or Protection & Control Design.
  • Strong experience with HV/MV substations.
  • Hands-on experience in:
  • Protection & Control Design
  • Protection Coordination
  • Relay Settings
  • Short Circuit & Fault Studies
  • IEC 61850
  • Experience with one or more of the following tools:
  • ETAP
  • DIgSILENT PowerFactory
  • ABB PCM600
  • Siemens DIGSI
  • Schneider MiCOM
  • Familiarity with GIS/AIS substations and international IEC standards is highly desirable.
