The Role
We areseeking a Project Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the ProjectAccounting Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for performingtimely and accurate billing and project financial reporting, as well asmonitoring key controls to support strong project financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assistproject managers in setting up and maintaining project and contract codingsystem in the ERP system. Review budgetand estimates set up.
- Assistproject managers with review of transactions posted to the accounting systemfrom the job sites.
- Reviewproject cost forecasts and percentage completion estimates. Coordinate withproject managers to understand and explain changes in forecasts andprofitability.
- Ongoingcommunication with project managers, site staff and head office regardingprojects and changes to expected financial results.
- Facilitatesmonthly project review with the Business Unit and Finance group to discussfinancial status of projects, issues and follow up action items. Post projectcost and revenue accruals and perform GL to subledger reconciliations at monthend.
- PreparesMonthly Business Unit Reporting Package and various ad hoc project reports asmay be required.
- Assistproject managers in understanding accounting, administrative and internalcontrol procedures.
- Timelyand accurate monthly billing and holdback release. Follow up on collections, and update commentsin accounts receivable.
- Coordinatethe closing of jobs in the accounting system.
- Identify,research and assist in implementing more efficient processes for project costreporting and billing.
- Recommendupdated policies and procedures applicable to project accounting and reporting
- Assistin preparation for annual financial audit and client project audits
- Assistand/or leading with special projects relating to job costing as may be required
- Collaborateswith the Accounting team, supporting the various needs from time to time.
WhatYou Bring
- Bachelor'sdegree in Business, Commerce, or related field.
- Anaccounting designation or progress towards a recognized accounting designation.
- Minimum5-year experience in project accounting
- Advancedknowledge of Job Cost Accounting principles, practices and procedures
- Stronganalysis and problem-solving ability to meet client and company needs.
- Proficientin Excel and prior experience with an ERP system.
