Overview Professional Engineer Designate – Engineer in Training Department: Wastewater Planning & Project Delivery, Engineering Services, Water and Waste Department Designated Work Location: 1199 Pacific Avenue, Hybrid Position Type: Temporary (Up to 4 Years), Full-time Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday Salary: $64,269.77 - $74,613.78 annually, as per the Engineer in Training Classification Employee Group: W.A.P.S.O. Flexible work arrangements may be available subject to review and approval. Equity, diversity and inclusion are encouraged in our workforce. Responsibilities Assist in planning related to the City’s water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure acceptable service levels.

Undertake engineering design, project management and/or contract administration for capital and operational projects, including preparation of bid documents and cost estimates. Perform engineering analyses, including calculations, hydraulic modeling, capacity assessments, and infrastructure condition assessments. Provide recommendations on design alternatives, costs, operational risks, and customer impacts to minimize environmental and service impacts.

Assist in design reviews of proposed modifications to infrastructure and new development proposals to comply with City servicing criteria and minimize impacts. Review design documents, as-built drawings, field survey data, and utility data for conflicts with proposed works. Administer field data collection and monitoring programs to assess and optimize system performance.

Review licensing requirements under which facilities operate. Provide customer service and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external contacts. Prepare written reports and presentations documenting analyses, recommendations and system performance.

Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned. Education and Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Eligible to be registered as an Engineer in Training with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) within 3 months.

Analytical and problem-solving skills with flexibility to develop innovative methodologies. Strong organizational and project planning abilities with a high degree of independence. Ability to prepare engineering reports and make recommendations.

Knowledge of sewage collection systems, land drainage, and flood protection systems. Basic knowledge of municipal wastewater, water, and land drainage systems. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including written and group presentations.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to operate a computer for related tasks. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels and with external contacts and the public. Knowledge of economic analysis methodologies.

Ability to work extended hours in emergency situations. Note: Applicants educated outside Canada must have credentials comparable to Canadian minimums, with official assessment if applicable. Conditions of Employment Must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada.

If a work permit is held, it must remain valid. A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required at the successful candidate's expense. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License; a driver’s notice may be requested.
