Job Description
Senior or Mid-level
Our client is a long-established Australian manufacturer, backed by a major ASX-listed group, with a genuine end-to-end engineering environment - concept, prototyping, testing, and mass production, all in-house. They're looking for a Product Development Engineer to join a hands-on NPD team building the next generation of automated mechanical products.
This role suits you if:
- You've worked in a regulated or compliance-driven product development environment - medical devices, automotive safety, gas/electrical appliance certification, or similar - and understand what it takes to prove a design meets a standard, not just that it works
- You're genuinely hands-on - happy prototyping, testing, and problem-solving in the workshop, as well as at a desk
- You've owned mechanical designs end-to-end, from concept through to mass production, across plastics, metals, and mechanism/gear assemblies
- You're comfortable working alongside electrical and software engineers, understanding how your mechanical design needs to accommodate PCBs, motors, and wiring
- You want autonomy and real ownership of your projects and designs
What you\'ll be doing:
- Owning mechanical design end-to-end, concept through prototyping, validation, and mass production release
- Designing across injection-moulded plastics, die-cast and cast aluminium, sheet metal, and mechanism/gear assemblies
- Working closely with electrical and software engineers to house PCBs, motors, and wiring within your mechanical designs
- Running and interpreting testing - cyclic, wear, environmental, and destructive - to validate designs before release
- Applying DFM/DFA thinking from day one, working with suppliers and manufacturing to get designs production-ready
- Contributing to design reviews, mentoring where needed, and bringing structure to a growing engineering function
What we\'re looking for:
- Genuine end-to-end product development experience - from concept through to mass production, not just CAD
- Experience working to formal standards or regulatory frameworks - e.g. ISO 9001/13485, automotive safety standards (ECE/ADR/FMVSS), gas or electrical appliance certification, or equivalent third-party compliance processes
- Comfortable working across plastics, metals, and mechanism design
- Autonomous and confident owning a project without heavy oversight - this is a senior role in scope and expectation
What\'s on offer:
- Competitive salary depending on experience
- Genuine end-to-end product ownership in a well-resourced, in-house engineering environment
- Backing and stability of an established ASX-listed group
- A collaborative team with real influence over how it\'s run
