Product Consultant (Contract) – DVSA Programme

Location: UK Remote

Client: Supporting the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA)

Contract: Initial 6 Months

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

Day Rate: Competitive


We're supporting a leading digital transformation consultancy in the search for an experienced Product Consultant to join a major digital transformation programme with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).


This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering user-centred digital services that support millions of people across the UK. Working within an Agile, multidisciplinary team, you'll help shape product direction, engage with stakeholders and ensure delivery teams have a well-defined, prioritised backlog.


The Role

As a Product Consultant, you'll own product features from discovery through to delivery, working closely with clients, developers, architects and designers to deliver high-quality digital products.

You'll facilitate workshops, gather and refine requirements, write user stories, prioritise backlogs and champion MVP thinking to maximise value throughout the delivery lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage product backlogs throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Gather, analyse and document functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops and discovery sessions.
  • Lead backlog refinement and support Agile ceremonies.
  • Prioritise features and manage dependencies across delivery teams.
  • Define and manage Minimum Viable Products (MVPs).
  • Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, architects and designers to deliver user-centred solutions.
  • Contribute to planning sessions and continuous product improvement.


Required Experience

  • Experience working as a Product Consultant, Product Owner or Agile Business Analyst.
  • Strong background delivering digital products within Agile environments.
  • Proven experience managing and prioritising product backlogs.
  • Excellent workshop facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong requirements gathering and user story writing experience.
  • Good understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience working closely with software engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Consultancy or client-facing delivery experience is highly desirable.


Desirable Experience

  • Experience delivering digital transformation programmes within the UK public sector.
  • Familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) principles.
  • Experience working with central government organisations such as the DVSA, DfT or other public sector bodies.
  • Exposure to pre-sales or bid support activities.
  • Technical awareness of modern software delivery practices.
