Schneider Electric’s Power Systems Division North America Operations has an outstanding opportunity for a passionate and motivated individual to assume the role of Principal Mechanical Engineer supporting our Mt. Juliet, TN facility. Overview The Project Engineering Team is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the design of medium voltage electrical power distribution equipment based on our customers’ plans and specifications.
These products are applied to distribute utility and generator power to various environments, including industrial, water/wastewater, and data centers. The candidate is responsible for designing medium voltage switchgear, implementing designs, and supporting product production at our manufacturing facility. Responsibilities Creation of custom medium voltage switchgear; unique customization of “base” designs for specific customers and/or applications while maintaining compliance with all performance, design, and Standards criteria Review and interpret technical specifications and drawings Create 3D models and 2D drawings for development of custom switchgear inclusive of busbar, barriers, and sheet metal parts Demonstrate capability of 2D and/or 3D modifications of high complexity parts and assemblies for adaptation into assigned order Develop and maintain bills of materials to meet custom applications Ability to design sheet metal, bus, and related mechanical parts and assemblies for the product line assigned.
This includes understanding of the material requirements and fabrication processes to create 2D and 3D models. Prediction of finished part dimensions after forming must be demonstrated. Understand the application and mechanical properties of the materials used Collaborate with Design Engineering and Technical Antenna team to ensure compliance and design intent of customer mechanical parts/assemblies are maintained Coordinate with production and other support functions to resolve design questions or challenges promptly Serve on local projects other related business transformation activities in leading change to improve productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction Qualifications/Requirements 6 years of mechanical engineering experience in medium voltage switchgear research and development, new product development, and/or product evolution.
Demonstrated prior experience with and ability to integrate design criteria of temperature rise, short circuit mechanical forces/bracing, seismic, electrical clearances, aging, environmental factors, etc. Competencies with and demonstrated prior experience using applicable medium voltage switchgear ANSI/IEEE Standards inclusive of testing/validation compliance Preference given to those with prior experience with ANSI medium voltage gas insulated switchgear and/or pad mounted switchgear Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university Proficiency with 3D modeling software – Creo is preferred US citizen or those who have the legal right to work in the US without sponsorship Aptitude and ability to succeed in a mixed office and manufacturing environment Company and Culture We offer a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), stock options, a flexible (hybrid) work schedule, training & development opportunities, and much more.
