Role: Principal Mechanical Engineer Full-Time Engineering consultancy specialising in the delivery of complex infrastructure projects across the energy and utilities landscape. With a strong track record in Ireland and a growing presence across the UK, the business supports clients through the full project lifecycle from early-stage concept and design through to construction and commissioning. Sectors including water, gas networks, renewables, and broader utilities infrastructure, where reliability, efficiency, and long-term asset performance are key.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the Utilities and Water sectors. This is a senior position suited to an individual with strong technical expertise in mechanical design, combined with a passion for leading, mentoring, and developing engineering teams. The successful candidate will act as both a technical authority and a leader, guiding project delivery while supporting and developing junior and intermediate engineers.

Lead mechanical design activities across water and utilities projects, from concept through to detailed design and commissioning Act as a subject matter expert in mechanical systems typically used in water and utilities infrastructure (e.g., Lead, mentor, and support engineers within the team—sharing knowledge and fostering professional development Manage project deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams Engage with clients and stakeholders, providing technical guidance and building strong working relationships Contribute to bid development, technical proposals, and project planning Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) Significant experience in mechanical design within the Utilities and/or Water sector Proven experience leading projects and/or engineering teams (or a strong desire to step into a leadership role) Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design including pumps, pipework, valves, and treatment processes Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering environments Apply or reach out for a confidential chat.
