Principal Engineer – Node.js / TypeScript / AWS

Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, distributed systems, microservices, and AWS cloud technologies.

The role will focus on designing, developing, scaling, and supporting highly available backend services and APIs for customer-facing applications. The ideal candidate will have strong ownership of backend architecture, application performance, production reliability, security, observability, and cloud-native engineering practices.

Experience with React and/or Java/Spring Boot is a plus but not mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications

• 7–9 years of overall software engineering experience, including at least 5 years of strong backend development experience.
• Strong hands-on programming experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Strong experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservice-based applications.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, design patterns, and software architecture.
• Experience designing and developing scalable and maintainable distributed systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Amazon DynamoDB, including:
• Partition key and sort key design
• Global and local secondary indexes
• Query and access-pattern-based data modeling
• Performance and scalability considerations
• Strong experience with AWS services including ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
• Experience developing asynchronous, queue-based, and event-driven workflows.
• Experience building secure, resilient, scalable, and highly available applications.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, or equivalent.
• Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines, including Jenkins or equivalent platforms.
• Strong experience with Git-based source control and development workflows.
• Strong understanding of application monitoring, debugging, observability, incident management, and production support.
• Good understanding of API security, authentication/authorization, error handling, resiliency, and performance optimization.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Build reliable, secure, and highly available microservice-based and distributed applications.
• Design efficient data models and access patterns using Amazon DynamoDB.
• Build cloud-native and event-driven solutions using AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
• Develop asynchronous processing workflows, background jobs, integrations, and messaging-based architectures.
• Define service boundaries, API contracts, data flows, and backend architecture.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and customer-facing issues.
• Identify and address performance, scalability, stability, security, availability, and extensibility challenges.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.
• Develop automated unit, integration, API, and service-level tests.
• Monitor production applications using logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
• Support and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerization, and deployment processes.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, QA Engineers, Architects, and globally distributed engineering teams.
• Work in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Take end-to-end ownership of backend features from design and implementation through deployment and production support.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to backend engineering standards and architectural best practices.
