Job Description
Application & Integration Architect
Primary Purpose:
- Own the domain architecture for Stolt-Nielsen's business applications and integrations.
- Define architecture patterns, standards, and target-state designs for applications and integrations across:
- Stolt Tankers
- Stolthaven Terminals
- Stolt Tank Containers
- Stolt Sea Farm
- Corporate Functions
- Ensure the application and integration landscape remains scalable, secure, maintainable, and operational.
- Drive adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-driven and AI-assisted application development.
- Serve as the senior technical authority for Application and Integration Architecture within the Digital Innovation Centre.
- Partner closely with Engineering Managers (Full-Stack Engineering & Integrations), where:
- Architect owns technical direction, standards, and target-state design.
- Engineering Managers own people management and delivery execution.
- Support enterprise architecture initiatives and guide divisional BT teams to align with enterprise standards and shared assets.
- Report to the Director, Digital Innovation Centre, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Director of Architecture, Engineering & AI.
Key Responsibilities:
Application & Integration Domain Architecture (45%):
Architecture Ownership (20%):
- Own the target-state architecture for application and integration domains.
- Define, publish, and maintain:
- Reference architectures
- Design patterns
- Architecture standards
- Drive best practices across:
- Application design
- API architecture
- Event-driven integration
- B2B messaging
Solution Architecture Leadership (15%):
- Lead architecture and design reviews for major initiatives.
- Make key architecture decisions.
- Document and communicate architectural trade-offs.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture principles.
Roadmap & Modernization Strategy (10%):
- Drive application and integration modernization roadmap.
- Lead migration from legacy middleware (BizTalk) to:
- Azure Integration Services
- iPaaS platforms
- Define API Management strategies.
- Manage lifecycle and obsolescence planning.
- Shape AI-driven and AI-assisted development approaches.
B. Enterprise Architecture & Divisional Guidance (25%)
4. Enterprise Alignment & Governance (15%)
- Guide divisional BT teams on architectural best practices.
- Ensure local solutions align with:
- Enterprise principles
- Target-state architecture
- Shared platforms and assets
- Act as the bridge between enterprise architecture and divisional delivery teams.
Enterprise Architecture Contribution (10%):
- Contribute to enterprise architecture practices and standards.
- Support:
- Technology Radar
- Architecture Principles
- LeanIX (Enterprise Architecture Management platform)
- Support investment planning through:
- Now / Next / Later roadmap framework
Technical Leadership & Collaboration (30%):
Technical Leadership (10%):
- Serve as technical counterpart to Engineering Managers.
- Establish technical direction and quality standards.
- Influence engineering excellence and best practices.
Coaching & Engineering Support (10%):
- Provide hands-on technical guidance.
- Offer third-level design support to engineering teams.
- Mentor engineers and improve architectural maturity across teams.
Vendor & Technology Evaluation (10%):
- Evaluate application and integration platforms and vendor solutions.
- Assess technology fit and strategic value.
- Drive build-vs-buy decisions.
- Influence technology investment decisions.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (mandatory).
- Master's degree in a technical or engineering discipline preferred.
- Equivalent professional qualifications may be considered.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in:
- Software Architecture
- Application Architecture
- Integration Architecture
- Proven experience in large-scale, multi-division or global organizations.
- Strong expertise in enterprise integration:
- API Management
- Event-Driven Architecture
- Messaging Patterns
- B2B Integrations
- Hands-on experience with:
- Azure Integration Services
- Logic Apps
- Service Bus
- API Management
- Azure Functions
- Azure Integration Services
- Strong application architecture background across:
- .NET
- React

- Cloud-native architectures
- Experience modernizing legacy environments, including:
- BizTalk migrations
- Middleware modernization

- Exposure to:

- Industry experience in Logistics, Shipping, or Supply Chain is preferred.
