Job Description
Position Type: Elementary School Date Posted: 2/4/2026 Location: Elementary Preschool Teacher Position Purpose Responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing a high-quality early childhood education program that promotes school readiness for preschool-aged children. The teacher creates a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment that supports children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards, Kansas Early Learning Standards, and district policies. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive instruction aligned with the Kansas Early Learning Standards and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.
Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment that supports positive behavior and active learning. Conduct ongoing child assessments and use data to individualize instruction and support school readiness goals. Develop and maintain accurate documentation, including lesson plans, attendance, assessments, and required Head Start records.
Build strong, respectful partnerships with families, including regular communication, parent conferences, adn family engagement activities. Collaborate with student assistant team members, specialists, and support staff to meet the individualized needs of students, including children with disabilities. Support children's health, nutrition, and safety in coordination with Head Start requirements and district procedures.
Participate in required professional development, staff meetings, and program planning activities. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all federal, state, and district regulations, including mandated reporting requirements. Other duties as assigned by building Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction, or Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: Best practices in preschool-level instruction, assessment, and classroom management. State and district academic standards, curriculum frameworks, and instructional materials. Legal and ethical responsibilities of educators, including confidentiality, mandated reporting, and student safety protocols.
Skills in: Planning and delivering engaging, standards-based lessons. Creating a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment. Communicating effectively with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administrators.
Collaborating with instructional teams and support staff to meet student needs. Ability to: Adapt instruction materials to meet the varying needs and interests of students. Maintain patience, flexibility, and professionalism under pressure.
Remain current with educational research, trends, and innovations. Uphold professional integrity and model ethical behavior. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting with occasional outdoor supervision.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs.) Ability to use computers, interactive boards, and other instructional equipment for extended periods. May be required to attend evening functions, professional development sessions, and district training. Qualifications & Skills: State of Kansas Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.
Valid Kansas Emergency Substitute Teaching License and enrollment in an accredited TAP program (in lieu of Kansas Teaching License). State of Kansas Certification in appropriate grade level. Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
