We are hiring for our client, a major organisation operating at the heart of Northern Ireland's electricity system, as they seek to appoint a Power System Evolution Engineer to join their Future Power Systems team in Belfast.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced power systems professional to work on technically challenging projects supporting the transition towards a cleaner, more secure electricity system.
The Power System Evolution Engineer will undertake technical modelling and analysis across the Northern Ireland and all-island power system, with particular focus on dynamic stability, system strength, reserve requirements and ramping capability. The work will directly support the integration of increasing levels of renewable generation and the long-term evolution of the power system.

The Role
As Power System Evolution Engineer, you will:
Support delivery of long-term operational policy and power system development programmes
Carry out dynamic modelling of the Northern Ireland and all-island electricity system
Model and forecast reserve and ramping requirements and capability over a 10-year horizon
Undertake power system stability, system strength and operational analysis
Contribute to national statutory and European-mandated technical assessments
Review reserve and ramping system services, including methodologies, technologies and required volumes
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders across the all-island electricity market
Analyse large and complex data sets using relevant modelling and analytical tools
Clearly document technical analysis, assumptions, methodologies and outputs
Help develop internal technical capability and expertise across future power system operations
The Person
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
Degree qualification in Engineering or another relevant technical discipline
Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience
Experience in power system analysis and modelling
Knowledge of electricity generation, demand and emerging technologies connecting to the power system
Experience with tools such as PSS/E, PowerFactory, PLEXOS, DSA tools, MATLAB or similar
Experience analysing large data sets using Python, R, Excel or similar tools
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Advanced Excel capability
Experience or knowledge of the all-island electricity system, Python programming, European energy policy, operational modelling or alternative power system analysis techniques would be particularly advantageous.
