TechMet are partnering locally with Ballylumford and Kilroot Power Station to appoint a Operations Graduate . This is an excellent opportunity for a recent 2/1 Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering graduate to begin a long-term career in power generation.

£42,542 PA TO £46,961

The successful candidate will join a structured 23 year graduate development programme, combining hands-on operational experience with formal training, mentoring and technical development.


Working alongside experienced Engineers, Operations Technicians and Maintenance teams, you will gain exposure to gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, electrical systems and associated power station equipment, while progressing towards operational authorisations including Authorised Person (AP) and potentially Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status.

As a Power Station Operations Graduate, you will:

  • Develop a strong understanding of power station operations and electricity generation
  • Support the safe operation of generating plant during start-up, load changes and shutdowns
  • Gain experience in both control room and plant-based operations
  • Monitor plant performance and analyse operational data
  • Carry out routine plant inspections and equipment condition assessments
  • Support fault-finding and troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical and process systems
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams
  • Participate in outages, maintenance planning and engineering improvement projects
  • Support the preparation of operating procedures, risk assessments and technical documentation
  • Develop towards Low Voltage and Mechanical Authorised Person status

Following approximately six months of day-shift training, the role will move to a rotating 12-hour shift pattern covering days and nights.

  • A minimum 2:1 BEng degree, or are expecting to graduate with a 2:1, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • A genuine interest in power generation, energy systems and industrial operations
  • The willingness to work a rotating shift patternfollowing the initial training period
