Job Description Job Description Position Overview The Plumbing Engineer is responsible for designing, coordinating, and supporting plumbing systems for residential, multifamily, and commercial construction projects. This role works closely with project managers, field teams, and builders to ensure plumbing systems are designed efficiently, installed correctly, and meet all applicable codes and project specifications. The Plumbing Engineer supports projects from design through construction, helping deliver cost-effective mechanical solutions while maintaining quality, safety, and performance standards.
The role contributes to projects that integrate plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems, providing coordinated mechanical solutions for builders. Key Responsibilities Design and develop plumbing system layouts for residential, multifamily, and commercial construction projects. Prepare and review plumbing drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Coordinate plumbing system design with HVAC, fire protection, and other building systems. Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and field teams to ensure designs are constructible and efficient. Support estimating and preconstruction teams with plumbing system design input and material requirements.
Review project plans to ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and industry standards. Assist with value engineering efforts to optimize system performance and reduce project costs. Provide technical support to field teams during installation and construction.
Coordinate with builders, architects, and engineers throughout the project lifecycle. Assist with troubleshooting system design issues and resolving field coordination challenges. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a related field preferred. 3–7 years of experience in plumbing design, mechanical contracting, or building systems engineering.
Experience designing plumbing systems for residential, multifamily, or commercial construction projects. Knowledge of plumbing codes, standards, and construction practices. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
Proficiency with engineering and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools. Strong communication and coordination skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working for a mechanical contractor or plumbing contractor supporting construction projects.
Familiarity with integrated building systems including plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection. Experience supporting large residential communities, multifamily housing, or commercial developments. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional project teams.
