Position Summary The SPS Commerce Platform Engineering team is responsible for delivering highly available platform services and deployment automation that empower our product engineering teams with services that are secure, reliable, cost effective, and enable product speed. Working within a fast-paced and collaborative environment, the Platform Engineering team partners with development to deliver market leading products and services. This role uses automation and other technologies to intelligently cope with challenging failures while collaborating with various engineering organizations to resolve failure risks at the source.
The Platform Engineering team at SPS approaches Operations as a software problem and aims to apply software engineering approaches to those problems. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Engineer and maintain highly available, secure, and cost-effective container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and ECS Develop robust monitoring and observability services and patterns to consistently improve the team’s ability to identify, react, respond, and recover from complex failures Collaborate with Technology Engineering, Development, and Product Management to help develop, scale, and improve production systems and services Partner with service teams to provide appropriate documentation, cross-training, architecture planning, capacity management, and recommendations for future state Engineer technical solutions to prevent or reduce the frequency of failures Write clean and correct code, write test plans and identify code quality improvements when reviewing code Design and operationalize AI agent infrastructure — Deploy and manage AI agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen) on SPS platform infrastructure, enabling automated multi-step operational workflows such as self-healing pipelines, infrastructure drift detection, and on-call triage automation running on Kubernetes Integrate AI coding assistants into Platform Engineering workflows — Evaluate, configure, and govern AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) within Platform Engineering’s development environment, ensuring secure integration with SPS CI/CD pipelines, code review processes, and IaC toolchains such as Terraform and CloudFormation Location This role follows a hybrid work model at our Brampton office. Minimum Requirements 2+ years IT experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 1 year with a Master’s degree, or a PhD without experience, or equivalent work experience Experience in Python and/or Golang with a software engineering mindset Experience administering Linux Experience with immutable and scalable infrastructure (infrastructure as code concepts) Demonstrated understanding of networking systems, various identity and authorization systems Problem solving and collaboration skills Experience using AI coding tools (GitHub, Copilot, Claude) to support Platform Engineering workflows Understanding of Agentic AI and MCP Servers Preferred Experience Experience working with Agile development methodology and task execution Experience building or operating CI/CD pipelines or other deployment automation solutions Experience with platform and service mesh technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Istio, Envoy, Consul, ECS, etc.
Experience with Amazon Web Services including EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, Route53, Elastic Load Balancers, AMIs, IAM Roles, and CloudFormation Experience with advanced monitoring solutions such as metrics platforms, logging, distributed tracing, and the like Benefits At SPS Commerce, we are committed to ensuring that each employee's compensation reflects their unique experiences, performance, and skills in their role. The salary range for this role considers several factors, including education, relevant skills, work history, certifications, location, and more. The annual salary range for this role is: $83,500.00 - $102,120 CAD.
