Platform Engineer

One of Alquemy's clients, a pension fund in downtown Toronto, is looking to hire a contract Data Platform Engineer well-versed in Snowflake. Data Platform Engineer 6-Month Contract | Hybrid (GTA) We’re looking for a hands-on Data Platform Engineer to build and optimize a modern data platform across Snowflake, Azure, and Databricks. This role is for someone who has owned platform environments end-to-end and can deliver quickly in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities Configure and optimize Snowflake (warehouse sizing, performance tuning, cost optimization, RBAC) Build data pipelines and integrations across Azure (ADF, ADLS, Fabric/Synapse), Snowflake, and Databricks Develop reusable frameworks (ingestion patterns, shared pipelines, platform components) Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/ARM) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub) Enable orchestration, monitoring, and platform reliability Troubleshoot integration issues and automate manual processes Required Experience 5+ years in data engineering, platform engineering, or cloud data environments Strong hands-on experience with: Snowflake (config, tuning, RBAC, ingestion/data sharing) Azure Data Platform (ADF, ADLS, Fabric or Synapse) Databricks (PySpark, Delta Lake) Experience with IaC (Terraform/ARM) and CI/CD pipelines Familiarity with Airflow/Prefect and dbt Strong understanding of data pipelines and data lake design What We’re Looking For Experience building scalable, reusable solutions Ability to work independently and deliver in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
