Under the general guidance of the Regional Plant Director, the Plant General Manager will lead a team to drive operational strategies that align with the company’s culture and long-term goals, to exceed our customers’ expectations. This role provides direct oversight of an assigned plant and ensures the location meets or exceeds environmental health and safety, regulatory compliance, production, and waste management goals within their region. The Plant General Manager will ensure the operations team and support staff handle and treat all waste streams in compliance with Clean Earth’s policy and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions) The main duties and responsibilities. Leadership & Strategy Provide coaching and development for managers and supervisors within the plant, guiding planning, organizing, and leading through continuous coaching, feedback on performance, and conducting performance appraisals in alignment with company goals and safety and regulatory requirements. Make recommendations and/or approvals on salary adjustments, promotions, transfers, and dismissals within the plant.

Support and participate in the recruitment and hiring of plant employees as needed. Conduct regular meetings to inform teams about current issues, procedural/operational changes, and new developments in the department and company. Oversee selection, training, and development of a diverse, effective workforce within the plant.

Provide technical support to managers and staff, and assist in the content development and deployment of training related to plant operations. Safety, Security, and Compliance Promote safety and security initiatives across the plant team. Oversee daily operations regulatory requirements and compliance (state, federal, and local).

Implement, communicate, and train safety protocols and compliance measures to ensure regulatory adherence. Train on and implement safety protocols and compliance measures to ensure operational efficiency and regulatory adherence. Initiate actions to resolve hazards or unsafe conditions and practices within the plant.

Customer Experience Management Act with urgency to resolve customer issues to maintain high service levels and grow the business within the plant. Operational Excellence Implement and communicate continual improvement of productivity standards and team safety in all phases of the operation in line with budgetary goals for the plant. Inbound Stay informed and take action on changes related to inbound 10-day management, waste receiving, lab testing, waste acceptance regulations, and industry standards.

Waste Processing Oversee waste processing processes in alignment with company goals, safety, and regulatory requirements. Stay updated on changes to waste processing and treatment regulations and industry standards. Ensure waste inventory is compliant and up to date with controls.

Shipping Oversee shipping processes in alignment with company goals, safety, and regulatory requirements. Stay updated on changes to outbound third-party vendors and outages or downtimes. Plant Management Execute and oversee management processes governing costs, facilities, supplies, and people leadership and development while ensuring alignment with company goals and safety requirements.

Maintain facilities and manage facility budgets for operational efficiency and safety compliance. Generate and submit Capital Expense requests. Stay informed about asset management regulations and industry standards.

Performs other related duties and/or project work as required or requested. Work Environment Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time by automobile, commercial airline, and other public transportation. Willingness to collaborate with the Regional Services Director and work in a hands-on manner to execute key initiatives.

Must be willing and able to abide by Clean Earth’s Core Values and Code of Conduct. Qualifications Education, Experience and Skills: Education: BA or BS degree required or preferred. Bachelor’s degree in an environmental-related field or demonstrated equivalent work experience 40-hour OSHA training completed and current Knowledge of DOT regulatory and compliance; current on necessary DOT certifications Must have a valid driver’s license Experience: Minimum seven (7) years of progressive environmental/hazardous waste management experience in an operations capacity related to receiving waste or materials management; and at least seven (7) years in a related field including plant management software, knowledge of DoT regulations, transportation logistics, and vehicle maintenance; plus seven (7) years of proven leadership experience.

Must stay current on applicable regulations and codes as they apply to the waste industry and area of responsibility. Ability to manage within an established budget and strong knowledge of budgetary statements, asset management, and project management. Minimum of 7 years of progressive environmental/hazardous waste management experience in operations related to receiving waste or materials management.

Minimum 7 years of experience in related field including plant management software systems, DoT regulations and standards, transportation logistics and planning, and vehicle maintenance and repair. Minimum 7 years of proven leadership experience. Demonstrates knowledge of applicable regulations and codes as they apply to the waste industry and area of responsibility.

Demonstrates ability to manage within an established budget with knowledge of budgetary statements, costs management, asset management, and project management. Skills Ability to work independently with initiative and effective communication to solve challenges. Ability to manage budgets.

Understanding of DOT regulations. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations to large groups. Ability to lead and delegate effectively.

Proficient computer skills and familiarity with software applications. Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable improvements. Ability to plan and organize; formal project management experience is ideal.

Knowledge of lean management, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus. Proficiency in change management methodologies and practices.
