Part-Time Faculty - Art Historian (Online) About the University (https://www.uma.edu/) UMA transforms the lives of students of every age and background across the State of Maine and beyond through access to high quality distance and on-site education, excellence in student support, civic engagement, and professional and liberal arts programs. The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking qualified applicants to teach Art History starting in the fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and to developing an innovative curriculum.

This position would teach courses that are online (asynchronously) and distance synchronous (meet in real time). We seek candidates whose teaching, scholarship, and mentorship support our mission of transforming the lives of students. Required Qualifications: A Ph.D in any field of Art History An active research agenda in a field of specialization Ability to teach ARH 105 (History of Art & Architecture I, Prehistory - 1400 Globally) and ARH 106 (History of Art & Architecture II, 1400 - Now Globally) Preferred Qualifications: A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching Ability to teach new Art History courses; particularly courses that explore art before 1945, the global South, African art, diasporic art, Asian art, art of the Islamic world, cross-cultural thematic courses and, ideally, courses that can be cross-listed with the Human Rights Minor, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Courses, and American Studies Willingness to serve our mission of integrating students with the community, outreach in connecting students with opportunities for working and volunteering in local institutions, including art galleries, photo archives, and museums in the area and to collaborate across disciplines in the University to fulfill this purpose Salary: The salary range is per credit hour and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
